re: Why did Skip retire so young?

quote:On the flight home after a series with Georgia in Athens after shortstop Ryan Theriot had committed several errors and we lost two of the three games, Skip started having chest pains.
Din't Skip have a heart attack and bypass surgery a few years ago? He probably saw that coming and figured he wanted an easier job indoors out of the elements.
The team's trainer was summoned up to the front of the plane to see if he could help Skip.
When he got there, he asked, "What's wrong, Skip?"
Skip grabbed his chest and growled, "It's Theriot....I think he's killing me!"
True story.

Some kid sat next to me at opening day and he had Ryan Theriot's glove from when he was with the Giants (I deduced based on the coloring). He gave the glove to his mom (MILF but sadly no pics) and ran off to get snacks and I told her I expected Ryan Theriot to be taller in person. She said that Ryan was his coach. I did not ask what made this boy (or his single mother) special enough that he got one of his fricken MLB gloves.

They get a lot of them, a guy I used to throw with during one of his off seasons (I was in high school) gave me one.

He was only 63 when he retired as LSU baseball coach,
better question is why did he retire as AD?!? Wish he was still calling the shots.

They had to play the Jeopardy song twice before Skip made it to the mound.

He don't suffer getting in and out of the casino.

63 is two years from retirement age. I think he retired when ready, at the right time.

It took Skip 18 minutes to make a roundtrip from the dugout to the mound in the 1998 NCAA Regional Championship against Cal State Fullerton.

The Riot more than made up for that on June 17, 2000.

Hell I sat on the side of him at the Boat when LSU was playing in a Regional and he was AD. Yeah, it was a little before the game, but I doubt he made it there.

Dude could barely walk to the mound by the time he retired.

Why are you hating on "The Riot?" Did he pull a Ben Simmons and hate on LSU?

How was I hating on him? I asked what made this little leaguer special enough for Ryan Theriot to give him one of his gloves when he was his coach.

I have a question, who were the blue seats at the old Alex Box for? AD? Bertman's wife? Big time boosters?

He was AD from 2001 - 2008. Better pay and easier job I guess.
being ad for a p5 program is in no way easier than being a baseball coach at a p5 program.

Not trying to disagree, but in Skips case yes it was easier.....

Wayne Graham is still going at it at 81 years old
Maybe by the time he turns 82 he will get back to the dugout from the mound.
