re: Why are some of y'all so confident that Paul will retire after this year?

They will give him the proper sendoff with a retirement jersey and other things beginning of next season

Any smoke about his potential replacement? I think we all know the top 3-4 candidates, but has there been any indication LSU is leaning in one direction from the people "in the know?"

You wanted to fire the coach after they lost in the final series in Omaha? And you’re proud of this?
Yes, because he has shown so much promise the next several years after the one year the team was talented enough to get to the finals even with all his bonehead decisions. He is pathetic as a coach when it comes to strategy. He has continuously underperformed with the talent LSU had in his tenure (including vs UF in the finals).

1,499 wins and he’s pathetic as a coach?

Where there’s smoke, there has to be fire, right?
Prior to May 1st, UL and Dan McDonnell were 23-12 and be the #12 seed and hosting in D1’s projections.
Since then, his team has gone 4-6 and are now projecting to be a 2-seed in the Nashville Regional.
He’s since set his eyes on greener pastures and is getting ready to don the LSU jersey. Has to be the case, right???

I'd take that outcome.

The Maineris and Miles of the world never leave if their own accord, he should be fired

Retired or Fired in this case is the same thing.

I for one have been wanting him gone for 6-7 years now. I wanted him gone the year we faced UF in the finals and lost (cost us plenty of games that year with his bonehead coaching strategy mistakes). I would love to see him retire (or fired), but I'm not holding my breath.
5-7 (3 seasons total) the program had:
2 Omaha appearances
1 College World Series finals
2 SEC West titles
2 SEC Titles
61-28 in conference play
1 SEC Tourney Title
You don't sound very smart.

I think Gautreau would be a fantastic hire, but I think Woodward would have a hard time justifying it to the fans with all the other big names out there. He's a Texas guy and I think he'd be a better fit at TAMU imo.

LSU won the regular season SEC title, the SEC tournament title, went undefeated in the regionals and in the super regionals in 2017. I wouldn't really point to 2017 as a bad coaching job on his part

It really does considering it obviously didn't work.

He also has a contract stating LSU has agreed to pay him $3+ million over the next 3 years. I think he has earned the right to "retire" (even if it's actually the AD forcing him out). But I wouldn't do it unless LSU agreed to quickly pay me a lump sum to do so.L
This all day long. He is gonna have to be paid plenty to walk away. Too much money on the table.

The AD lost $80M last year, Manieri is not going anywhere unless he wants to. Accept it.
LSU has other issues to deal with.

The man has not told anyone official that he is retiring. He is not walking away from $3.3 million which is what he's owed over 3 years if we fire him. The best case scenario probably is he announces his retirement and LSU gives him $1.5-2 million over 2 years.
What no one seems to be talking about is that some HC's might not want to replace CPM, a NC HC who has more wins than anyone in CBB currently and yet has so much opposition from fans. Just a thought...

Those coaches wouldn't be worth considering anyway.

It happens more than you think if it’s not handled the right way. Especially with a respected coach
