Why are some of y'all so confident that Paul will retire after this year?
Until I hear it out of Paul's mouth, I'm assuming he will return next year. I'm thinking half of this site will be extremely disappointed when he is coaching LSU next year.

I for one have been wanting him gone for 6-7 years now. I wanted him gone the year we faced UF in the finals and lost (cost us plenty of games that year with his bonehead coaching strategy mistakes). I would love to see him retire (or fired), but I'm not holding my breath.

It’s not his choice

Why do you think it would only be half?

There's lots of smoke, but this is a good strategy. Paul has an ego. He isn't going to leave easily. From an emotional standpoint.

1) This doesn't reflect good on you.

2) You gotta show receipts if you're going to make claims like this.

I know enough about baseball to know he is a shitty coach when it comes to baseball strategy.

I have co-workers who thought I was crazy when I was saying it, but that's all I've got. Probably won't stand up in court.

He looks and sounds ready. I think he'll have a mental attachment to sticking around, but Woodward should sit down with him to discuss how much it would benefit him and the program to walk away now. Paul's plea will likely be the returning cast that he'd like to see through.

Lots of smoke from lots of people that usually know these things. Everything I’ve heard from people I believe is that it’ll be a closed door forced retirement with full buyout and they’ll tell the public it was all Paul’s decision and he’ll remain an integral ambassador for LSU athletics going forward.

So in the same breath you are saying he guided LSU to a championship series and cost LSU plenty of games with boneheaded coaching?

What kind of Rantarded logic is this?

This is it for paul. Let him go out with dignity.

It’ll be announced when the time is best for LSU

He also has a contract stating LSU has agreed to pay him $3+ million over the next 3 years.

I think he has earned the right to "retire" (even if it's actually the AD forcing him out). But I wouldn't do it unless LSU agreed to quickly pay me a lump sum to do so.

Should have won the title that year. In the championship series alone, he had several guys dead meat running to home to try and force a score when the bats were hot. You can have a great team with a shitty coach and still win games despite that shitty coach's decisions.

You can feel it in the air. Just like when Les was going out the door

People said he's going to have a job at TAF to help offset the lack of income.

You wanted to fire the coach after they lost in the final series in Omaha? And you’re proud of this?

Here's some stuff from The Advocate about his surgery last year...
quote:

Coach Paul Mainieri watched Game 1 of LSU's Purple-Gold World Series from the press box to isolate himself from possible coronavirus exposure before undergoing his second neck surgery in less than a year.

Mainieri will have a fusion of the C4 and C5 vertebrae Nov. 16 as he tries to alleviate pain that has bothered him for two years and intensified in the last three months.

"I can’t continue this way," Mainieri said Wednesday night. "I have to have this surgery."

The initial pain appeared late in the summer of 2018. He lived with increasing discomfort throughout the 2019 season, placing his hands on either side of his neck to support it during games. He felt miserable in the dugout.

quote:

Mainieri had surgery last December to insert a prosthetic disc between his C5 and C6 vertebrae. The procedure, done by one of Mainieri's former players at Notre Dame, temporarily alleviated the pain in Mainieri's neck.

"It continued to get worse," Mainieri said. "I don’t have any choice."

I would say he's experiencing the same thing now or maybe even worse.
