I can tell you why I'm a bit frosted by it. There are two U. of L.'s, and ULL taking that they are THE U. of L. is a bit forward, as ULM could rightfully make the same claim. ULM doesn't - they just call themselves ULM. Until ULL rightfully petitions for a name change, and gets to legally call themselves U. of L., it is confusing, deceiving, and discourteous to call themselves THE U. of L.. KC (formerly from NELA).

That should be the prize when they play each other in football. The winner gets to be UL for the year.

We know how that goes...

I solve that problem by calling them USL. Damn, does that bother the hell out of them.

:kige:

I do the same and boy do they get as red as that queer little pepper on their logo!

No, they really couldn't. People who make the above statement have no knowledge of the history of the UL(L) name change fiasco

LSU A&M - Baton Rouge was given permission by the state legislature to use the name "LSU." ULL was not. Thats the difference. I totally understand the reason behind the movement, but when you call yourself something you werent given permission to use people are going to call you out on it.

......It is obvious by your posting you are in no way an LSU fan. So you can stop using the "we" and "us". No LSU fan would get worked up defending ULL's lie of trying to call themselves "the University of Louisiana" except a ULL fan.

Are we afraid that the name University of Louisiana will some how diminish our reputation? Do we honestly think people will decide to go to UL because the name sounds more prestigious? Come on people…hold your heads high and stop worrying about such trivial issues. It’s embarrassing!

Where's the main campus for the UL system?

as some of you are correct, it states that lafayette has to be somewhere when using UL or the Univ of Louisiana, nowhere does it state that lafayette has to be attached to the word Louisiana by itself....example football baseball jerseys. so all those here trying to do great justice for our state by defending this ever so important law, keep that in mind

That's correct. Tulane was the original.

I was in school at NLU when that arse-monkey Lawson Swearingen pulled this crap. He had tried a few years earlier and the alumni association grew by something like 30% in a month so people could express their disagreement with the idea.

He backed off a few years then waited for a break between semesters (it was either between Summer I and Summer II or Summer II and the Fall). Just one of many poor choices he made while he was there.

It's such a lame affectation that it seems to somehow diminish rather than build up the image. It's not likely that that school will ever be on par with LSU and it's sad that they don't realize that a real USL is better than a pretend UL.

SC and UCLA don't want to be Cal! They are who they are.

Swearingen was an assmonkey - he just about drove Northeast into the ground before leaving. Things have appeared to have improved significantly since he left, at least in the condition of the campus. KC.

but there is a CAL, no one said we are trying to be on par with LSU, i dont get how being call UL means we want to be on par with LSU. It seems logical that a university the size of ours (16000+) which is larger than some SEC schools would want to lose the city tag. your argument is moot at best

As the saying goes "you ain't just whistlin' 'Dixie'". In less than a decade Lawson took a school that was financially in the black, ever-increasing enrollment, winning teams, and turned it into a debt-ridden hellhole where enrollment was dropping, morale among both faculty and staff were low, and the sports teams were losing more than they won (in the case of the football team, they became highly desired Homecoming opponents).

It was so bad that just before Lawson was shown the door, one of the teachers had an anon website up named Truth At ULM that talked about all the wasting of money and such.

Dr. Kofer (the current President) has really done a great job at turning the place around. Enrollment is up, they are working within the budget, his idea of leadership of the faulty isn't divide-and-conquer, and overall morale is higher (along with many new buildings). If they could ever get the sports programs back on track and change the damned name back to NLU, I think you would see a much better establishment.

Thanks for the ULM update. I'm originally from Funreaux, and, though a La Tech grad, am happy to hear Dr. Cofer is turning it around so well. KC.
