If we win this game then McMahon is John Wooden reincarnated and should be given a lifetime contract!
BUT
If we lose this game he's a bum that should be fired immediately!
Who's with me?!?!

Tonight is another in a LONG line of such games over the last 30+ years. An opportunity to build some momentum in the program. More often than not LSU has lost those games. While it won't be easy, McMahon really needs this game. Not because a NCAA Tournament bid is on the line...or really any significant postseason dreams. But, because it would give him and the program something really positive to promote (back to back wins over ranked teams), and give them momentum going into a stretch of several winnable games.
A loss to a ranked UK team who may be playing its best ball of the year doesn't kill the program. It just wipes out much of the goodwill gained from Saturday's win as most will just chalk up the USC win as a brief aberration more than a trend and return to their previous state of apathy.

Tigers better bring their A game!!

That's because most of the "fans" on here are morons. A loss tonight does nothing to their win on the road against SC. It is extremely difficult to win road games regardless and especially against good ranked teams. We were right there against FL and GA also. If LSU is competitive but loses so what. If we can finish the rest of the season strong and maybe win an SEC game or 2 then this season will have been a step forward and that is the minimum I wanted to see. Of course if they win then all of the Mchaters will have to STFU. Here's hoping for the win!

My prediction is that we win this one and a couple more impressive ones and then lose some head-scratchers.

We can win, but we'll have to play really well. Let's Geaux !

And along comes you who is either unintentionally horrible at reading comprehension or intentionally disingenuous. Maybe a combination of both.
NOWHERE did I say "If we lose this game he's a bum that should be fired immediately!" I'm simply pointing out what has been absolutely true over the course of 3 decades. The South Carolina win has drawn additional interest from those who probably consider themselves more casual fans. You'll likely see it tonight with a larger than average crowd. If LSU wins tonight they can take another big step in building on that success. Back to back wins over ranked teams will bring in even more interest from fans who normally don't follow basketball intently. But if LSU loses, most of those casual fans whose interest was piqued by the USC win will go back to tuning out.
You can choose to not believe that if you'd like (or more accurately, just hold a contrarian opinion simply for the sake of holding a contrarian opinion). But that is the reality. It's a scenario that has played out over and over for the last 30 years. A step forward...then a step back. It's is why LSU's basketball success and fan interest can most accurately be described as "inconsistent".

This is pretty much where I fall at the moment. Which is sad because I watched every single game when *REDACTED* was the coach.
I chose to redact his name so we can skip the part where we argue about him. My point isn't about the coach but that winning makes people show interest regardless of who is in charge.

Nah, it's not because most are "morons". It's because most are casual basketball fans. They only show great interest when LSU is good. If not, they largely ignore basketball.
You and I may know and appreciate that. But you and I aren't who the program is trying to capture. They already have our support. It's the folks who maybe think about going to a game every now and then who the program wants to bring in and make them dedicated fans.
Beating Kentucky ALWAYS gets noticed by LSU fans (even if Kentucky isn't up to their lofty standards). Doing so on the heels of a win over a ranked USC team will get even more people to take note. That's how you continue to build interest. It's how you get people who otherwise wouldn't go out of their way to watch an LSU game to buy a ticket to the PMAC or, at least, just make it a point to catch the game on TV.

I think some of it depends on how we look if we end up losing to UK tonight. If we lose a close game at home it would be disappointing but fans can say we’re still trending upward and UK is playing good ball of late.
If we get pounded by 15 or 20 and look like crap, the casual fan will say that we beat an SC team that was off that night or looking past us. I think the SC game was a big win on the road regardless.

Leaving straight from work, changing in the car! Pumped! Might call in late tomorrow. By the time I get home and back up for work will be 3 hours. Lots of Red Bull tomorrow.

LSU fair weather fans:
Give him an extension and raise! Then fire him before he leaves the office!

I agree with what you say here, but your previous post was more pessimistic. You did say losing to Kentucky would appear to make the South Carolina game an aberration, but that ignores the obvious progress the team has made. If that was an aberration, the team has had several aberrations this season, which by definition means it isn’t aberrant. They had several Q1 victories this year. I think they may have had 1 last year. Losing today doesn’t mean the team has suddenly taken a big step backwards, and if the goodwill is lost, it is only lost among fans that aren’t following the team closely. A win today also doesn’t mean the team has taken a big step forward, however given where we are, I would consider a win a much bigger deal than a loss, since a loss is expected. It is unexpected results, such as the loss to Nichols, that moves the needle significantly. What is most important is how we win or lose. A win to Kentucky would move the needle no matter what, but a big win would move it a lot, while a close loss wouldn’t, but a big loss would move the needle a little. All of this changes in our future games against much weaker opponents, because we will be expected to win.

Two teams playing well. LSU needs to get ahead early in this one and bring the defense is the only way they get a W. KY jelly is always lucky against us at home.

That is almost a 2 to 1 ratio, so yes 9 wins out of 14 is dominate for an outside team on our court. If they win it will be 10-5.
