I'd have to say it like this...coaches who could replicate what Miles has done at LSU...and remember, LSU isn't a job that everyone can win at. Some people win because they're quite comfortable and no one gets in their way. That doesn't happen here. Anyway:

1. Butch Davis, UNC
2. Tommy Tubberville, Auburn
3. Jeff Gruden, TB Bucs
4. Dennis Erickson, ASU
5. Rich Rodriguez, Michigan

These are 5 candidates who I feel could fit in at LSU and win. I do not think Pete Carroll could, because this isn't a place for him...nor Stoops, Mack Brown, Jim Tressel, Frank Beamer, etc. The men I have listed are strong and genius in their own ways. If Miles were to ever leave, I'd be pleased as punch to have any of the 5. That said, I want agin to make it clear that these are only the coaches who could replicate success of Miles. I never said surpass it.

Tuberville and his explosive creative offenses can stay away from baton rouge. The other guys you mentioned are elite coaches who can coach anywhere and do well (although the jury is out on RichRod). Pete Carrol would do fine at LSU.

Tubberville is a defensive guy and has just not been able to find a good OC, other than Borges, at Auburn. He'd do fine in BR if we gave him a good staff. He was a great DC at Miami when they were on top. He won games at Ole Miss. He constantly overachieves at Auburn, but for 2003. When Miles was rumored to be leaving, Tubby's name probably was endorsed 2nd or 3rd most out of the damn near 20 coaches that everyone was yapping about last November.

As for Carroll...nah. I don't see it. He's the kind of guy that wants to be bigger than his own program. He likes the L.A. scene where the pressure's never greater than the success. I don't think he'd like Baton Rogue. Like I said, it's not for everyone. You're now on the hotseat if you cannot 10 games back to back seasons. LSU is turning into Nebraska - fire a guy for winning evey year and replace him with stupidity on two feet. This job is only for a select few. Just look at those who couldn't survive past 5 years.

Agree on Tuberville, but I am not sure that Carroll would fit in eating boiled crawfish with a knife and a fork.

Will NEVER be a head coach at LSU. Influential alumni would not allow it.

Or fewer ... absolutely!

I think most are upset with his DC selections ... choosing Pelini-style defense as opposed to the more aggressive Saban-style defenses we had become accustomed to.

Our offense has improved dramatically since Miles showed up ... I'd just like to see a new DC.

Saban.

As much as people might hate the guy assuming we have the same Coordinators we need someone to toughen up the defense and does anyone here want to say that Saban isn't a crack Defensive coach?

Now I agree that Miles has done an exceptional job, but I've said it before, I think there are about 30 head coaches out there who, if given the talent of the 2007 team, could have won the national title. I think he had, USC aside, far and away the most experience while still having an abundance of talent.

I don't know if there are 10 coaches i'd rather have than Miles on my football team, but we'd never take him, him being a Michigan man and all.....

There is no way in hell TT would be the coach at LSU. I'd rather have no coach at all if he was the only choice.
