Weren't we up by 20 at this point? Who gives a frick if 8 seconds roll off the clock?!?
8 seconds could have been the difference between a field goal attempt and time expiring. Turns out, had UNC scored on its last possession, those 3 points would have been gold, so the "OMG we were up by 20" comment is moot and myopic.

Miles botched the timing at the end of the half.

probably wanted the timeout for the offensive series.

right im sure he did. but it just shows how stupid he is. on offense you can do things to stop the clock like getting out of bounds, spiking, first down for a temporary stoppage. and even going no huddle. not rocket science stuff here. so while having a timeout for the offensive series wouldve been nice..just letting that 40 seconds waste away was just dumb.

They broke down North Carolina game, they were actually more critical of Davis and UNC for not speeding up play at end of the game. The UNC drive before the onside kick drained a lot of time off the clock. They think UNC could've got an extra possession and it wouldn't have come down to the last play.

watched it, and it left me sick to hear how poorly Les is deemed in their minds. throughout the show there were multiple references to poor coaching, and there is no question that the penl of experts think Les is an idiot.

I kinda got that feeling...

Yeah, up by 20 going into halftime and ya'll are worried about 8 frickin seconds. Some of you will stop at nothing to find things wrong with LM. Like anyone would have had the foresight that the game would come down to the last 2 plays. In that situation, with us getting the ball to start the 2nd half, most coaches wouldn't have even called a timeout. Now if you wanna be pissed off, be pissed off at the playcalling and personnel decisions in the 4th quarter.

I thought the experts were pretty fair in their analysis of the game. I can't stand Pollock and yes he does probably hold a grudge against LSU for the game at LSU and the beat down in the Ga Dome.

They did mention Muschamp would only leave for LSU or UGA if Mack Brown stays longer.

You and Miles have the same problem. You don't need foresight to worry about the last 2 plays, you need to grab every opportunity to make sure it never gets to that. You don't rely on the first possession of the second half, you competently manage the clock to give yourself every opportunity to score as many points as possible. The 20 point margin is so irrelevant it's comical.

Screw Pollack. He has hated LSU ever since his visit to Tiger Stadium in 2003.

Why would he hate Miles? Georgia was merciless on Miles and the Tigers in 05.

Like most SEC fans, I suspect Pollack would like to see Miles quit embarrassing him with his co workers.

you act like 20 points is some awesome cushion. of course you try for points before the half when unc has 4th down with a 1:40 left. give me a break. that much isnt even a discussion.

I've got zero problem with Miles saving a timeout for the offensive possession instead of using it before the punt. It's a valid strategy to leave your offense with a timeout to use in case they need it. I would have also been OK using the timeout before the punt to save time leaving no timeouts. There's no right or wrong way to do it in that situation. It's just different philosophies.

Where I do have a problem, is not pounding into your QB's head to be smart with the football and realize the tradeoff between losing precious seconds off the clock vs. getting a couple yards on a dump pass to your RB who gets tackled in bounds. The 3 yards Ridley got on the dump pass was not worth the 20 seconds that ticked off the clock having to get everyone lined back up. You throw the ball away, and try your hand at 2nd and ten with more time on the clock, rather than 2nd and 7 with the clock running.

Ultimately, it didn't matter because of the boneheaded INT throwaway attempt.

Miles can’t win in the eyes of some of the fans. If PP or some other star gets hurt when we are up by 20 in the 4th quarter, people would say he was an idiot for playing him. If he rests him and NC scores (like what happened), he is an idiot for not playing him. PP was taking IV’s during the game. He deserved a rest. Two freshman screwed up. It happens. Monday morning quarterbacking is really easy for fans because we already know the outcome. I am sure all college coaches would like to know the outcome before they make their decisions during the game. Saban always pulls back in the 2nd half (see National Championship game last year against a back-up freshman quarterback who lead UT back into the game in the 4th quarter) and it drove me crazy when he did it while at LSU. Kirk Ferentz at Iowa does the same thing. I don’t see anyone calling them an idiot or questioning their coaching skills. Why Miles?

I'm no defender of Miles' game management skills, but I don't see the issue here.

The argument of whether Miles should have used his last timeout after 3rd down could go either way IMO. The goal of using your timeouts is to make sure you have enough time to run your 2-minute drill and get in FG range. At the same time, all things being equal, you'd much rather have a timeout left than have none -- yes there are ways to stop the clock with no timeouts, but there are also scenarios and things that happen where having that TO would be extremely advantageous. So with 1:40 left after 3rd down, there's no doubt that we could keep our last TO and still have enough time to run the 2-minute and put points on the board. And we would have had a shot at a FG had the offense not botched the drive.

As for the 8 seconds that ran off before using the last timeout, it's pretty clear he was trying to call it, and that type of delay is pretty common.
