Wasn't Tommy White a bit rusty coming back from the same injury? I could be misremembering, but I do remember it took him quite a bit before he started hitting homers again. Now he's hitting them all the time. Hopefully Dugas continues to improve and ultimately gets back to preinjury form.

Since the injury (before last night) he was batting around .150 and had struck out at about a 45% clip. He was 3 times more likely to strike out than to get a hit.

Clearly, he wasn't healthy. I'm glad he did well last night, but if he's still not healthy I'd let him heal. He's too important.

I actually don't know, but are his strikeout numbers improving the past couple of games? I wasn't able to watch the game last night (who was), but it seems like it's possible he's making better contact. From what I saw this past weekend he looked much better. Even some of his foul balls were hammered which looked to be an improvement from the week before.

Is it possible he's getting better timing down and feeling more comfortable swinging lately? I think he is showing improvement, but maybe I'm wrong.

I am actually okay with keeping him at leadoff to work it out just like I was patient with White. Maybe White didn't have the same struggles striking out, but he definitely wasn't driving the ball the same for a couple of weeks after returning.

The weekend against ole miss shouldnt be counted as he was a week off that separated shoulder. He struck out 9 times that weekend.

He struck out just twice this past weekend. Much improved

Not to mention, a slumping Dugas still hits as good, or better, than Nippolt or Merrifield. It's not like we have the luxury of a man waiting behind him to produce like we have in the OF, or at catcher with professional hitter Alex Milazzo.

Yeah! That is how you end a slump. You play through it. You don't end a slump by missing games.

He needs to be better in SEC games, it's not personal

So a guy goes like 4 for 25 but now he is beyond criticism because he hits a homer against tier 5 team?

You people are brilliant. Really showing those thinking chops here.

BTW, Jay should have a sense of theater and play a little cut of that old song “This Magic Moment” when he hands out the post-game “Magic Moment” award. Dugas won it last night.

I'm not sure if it was me but I posted it the game threads that I think he should be moved out of the lead off spot.

Gavin is clearly locked in as the 2B on this team but he's hitting below .200 in sec play.

I would personally put the lineup as:

1. Tre
2. Crews
3. Tommy
4. Beloso
5. Dugas
6. Jared
7. Thompson
8. Jobert/Kling/Pearson
9. Milazzo/Travenski/Neal

I don't think it's a slight to say I think he should hit top 5 on the #1 team in the country. I just don't think you can leave him in the lead off spot if his average is 1 hit in every 5/6 ABs

He gets on 43% of the time in sec play, and it was higher pre-injury.

Hell, its a .465 obp (good for 2nd on the team behind crews) if you just take out the bama weekend where he still got on base 5 times and was obviously playing real hurt

And it was .491 obp pre injury. Which is fricking elite

While I agree with he shouldnt be moved just yet.. Using one game against a shite mid week team as prove your argument is a little silly.

He's been garbage the last two weekends in SEC play. Hopefully he continues to improve and I think he will.

Well I’m definitely seeing that you are a dumbass that apparently has/had some kind of bad life experience involving Guidry the way you shite on the guy.

If you watched him and the way teams were pitching him you could tell he was having trouble turning on inside FBs since the shoulder injury. His hits were dropping the bat head loopers but this past weekend there was some pop on the ball and last night he hits the HR. Those are signs that his strength is coming back. I think he should’ve been rested one more week after the injury but he wasn’t. We’ve been waiting for him to get back to normal and it seems like that’s either here or close to happening. What’s the problem?
