I wasn’t around for Tommy Casanova but for the guys I’ve seen:
1. Adams
2. Reid
3. Landry
Craig Steltz honorable mention

We’ve had some good ones but damn some of you have really short memories
Laron Landry was an absolute monster from his freshman year until the day he left.
Cassanova was before my team but he’s either 1 or 2
Reid and Adam’s aren’t even close. Delpit’s sophomore season might be the best single season, but recent bias might be affecting my memeory.

There was a pic several years ago of DBU when Adams and Co were there. Tommy Casanova day a legit 6’2” was as big or bigger than all of them. He was the best pure football player I ever saw in an LSU uniform.
With that for all those people that say he was a safety, he played corner at LSU and IMO was the best ever and that includes better than Peterson.
At 200 he was also physical which is why the NFL made him a safety.
Of course I’m a little biased as I graduated from LSU in ‘72.

Chad Jones has my vote (I did not get to see Cassanova play). He was so good for his time. WR's were legitimately afraid of catching passes over the middle.

What about the Honey Badger

Laron Landry was better as a freshman than a senior. He got entirely too big and was completely a 1 trick pony.
Freshman Landry was an athletic freak that could literally do everything on a football field.

Casanova was a CORNER BACK WHILE AT LSU. If you said including NFL, then he would be a great but there is a guy that just got into the NFL HOF was GREAT!!
Go look up Candy Man...

Agreed. He is the only 3 time All-American to play at LSU

quote:if only he was a safety dumbass that would be true. He played corner at LSU. If you count him then HANDS DOWN Johnny Robinson is HANDS DOWN the best safety to ever come out of LSU who happened to be a tail back or flanker.
Cassanova and it’s not close.

Liffort Hobley should get some mention. Also had a nice NFL career with the Dolphins.
Greg Jackson
Chris Carrier
All very good safeties.
Hokie Gajan played safety as a Tr Fr in '77.

The Walter Camp Foundation put him on the all century team as a safety

Brandon Taylor
he won’t have the stats, but Honey Badger and Peterson will both tell you they could be as aggressive as they were because Taylor was absolutely going to be where he needed to be behind them.

Delpit is the most overrated safety to play for LSU.

Adams on his way to being the best
Remember when saban tried to steal him and instead got hootie Jones who he tried to process or show fake interest in LSU
