Man, tough one

Ryan Clark, Shyrone Carey, Mickey Guidry, Nacho Albergamo….but if I had to pick one I’d say Tory James

Super Bowl champion and NFL pro bowler. All around better athlete than Ryan Clark for sure

The one that went on to do the most professionally was Andrew Whitworth, but no one meant more to the West Monroe brand than Tommy Banks did in the 90s. He single-handedly beat most of the teams in 1996.

Ponchatoula HS
Class of 1988 sent Darron “Boo Boo” Landry OG to LSU. Highly recruited. We were in awe when Tom Osborne walked into the field house on a recruiting visit to see him.

He was a 2-3 year starter, and he started the fight at FSU in 1990 after a FSU player hit Jesse Daigle LSU QB late on the sideline. Landry #76 came running from the field and clobbered the guy, resulting in a brawl at the end of the game. LSU was getting crushed, and I imagine there was a lot of frustration. Landry was/is a tough dude.

Another OL from that PHS team, Jason Orgeron, walked on to LSU, but never saw game action.

Hunter Gomez was a contributing starting/relief pitcher on both the 1999 and 2000 championship team. I think he had over 200 strikeouts during his time at LSU.

Landry, Gomez and Orgeron are all top-notch guys too.

Michael Neal was a baseball player from Hammond who originally went to UNC. Played infield. Transferred to LSU and played in the ‘92-94 time frame, which includes winning a ring in 1993. I don’t remember him being huge contributor, but he did play. Claim to fame: he appeared on a Topps prospects card next to Derek Jeter.

His Mom taught me English my sophomore year at Ponchatoula High and was one of my favorite teachers.

James Hemphill was from HHS and went to Clemson to play football (LB) and baseball (OF). Baseball became his better sport, and he transferred to LSU to play baseball. He was on the ‘96 championship team if I recall correctly. Didn’t play much as I remember.

James was a friend of my brother in grade school, and I knew him. Great family and really good dude. He’s made a good career in school administration. I’m not surprised.

It’s me. I was not that great in college, but I was a walk-on on the track team for 4 years. As far as I know, I am the only person from my high school to ever compete for the Tigers in any sport.
