It varies from person to person. To me, it’s Alabama. I want to beat them more than anyone. To a new younger generation, it could be A&M, old school people might say Ole Miss, Auburn or Florida.

The reality is that LSU is rivals with several teams; albeit, maybe not that teams biggest rival. However, they are big rivals nonetheless. I don’t know how it can be interpreted any other way. Having been a founding member of the SEC, and considering that but for the colossal F-up of Tulane and Ga. Tech leaving the conference, the SEC has been virtually unscathed as a conference for over over 80+ years. LSU has a rich history with many teams in it’s own conference. It instantly has rivalries with several teams in the SEC, depending on who has a good team that year. If Ole Miss or Miss St. or Arkansa has a good team it’s a no brainer that LSU will be a huge game for them. I guess it depends how one defines what constitutes a “rivalry”.

I’m always interested by the fact that when this question is asked everyone automatically leaps to talking about just football. So to me the question needs to be clarified on if you’re talking just football rival or overall athletic rival.
If you ask about overall rival, to me it is Florida hands down. Florida and LSU are easily the two most premier athletic schools in the SEC in all sports, as we both field competitive teams in nearly everything from the 3 majors to softball, gymnastics, etc. And we seem to compete fiercely and have a bit of nastiness in everyone of them. In my opinion no other SEC school can say that.
If talking just football, then I think Alabama would be the easy choice. They are consistently our biggest hurdle every year and the one team that everyone wants to beat most if having to choose one. The outcome of our game has the biggest impact on the SEC and national championship nearly every year.
I’d personally throw Texas A&M in somewhere too as I just despise them. I get it from my dad and pawpaw.

Ole Miss is our biggest rival. Bottom line is we only perceive them right now to be beneath us - at least in football. No one sucks more to lose to than fricking Ole Miss.

For the past 20 years, it is Bama. No question. Up until the late 80’s it was Tulane.

When I was a student at LSU in the early seventies, Ole Miss was hands down our biggest rival. Living on campus LSU had an Ole Miss week. It was the week leading up to the game. The male students would go across campus to the female dorms. The females would throw panties out of their windows at the dorms. The cops would come and nab some of the guys and bring them downtown. For a few of those caught, the penalty was having to miss the Ole Miss game. Many paid a fine instead of missing the game. The guys would set garbage cans on fire and some who were brave enough would pull the fire alarms in the dorms. If you were caught pulling the fire alarm you had to pay a steep fine, appear in court and possibly being expelled from school. I never heard or knew anyone who got caught. Back in those days the drinking age was 18 so a lot of the guys were drunk when they participated in the panty raids. It was a great week to be an LSU student.

LSU has a lot of teams that we perceive as rivals but all of those teams have bigger rivalry series that stand out every year as the more hated team on the other side.
Florida- Cocktail Party
Alabama/Auburn- Iron Bowl
Ole Miss- Egg Bowl
I think that the Texas A&M game is a natural fit as a classic "rivalry" type series given the history, proximity and general dislike of each other. 74-72 followed by the 50-7 arse whipping put some spice in the series.
Assuming the Aggies don't restart their series with Texas, I could see this game growing down the road into one of the anticipated rivalry week games. I gotta say as much as we enjoy the Auburn, Bama and Florida games which are usually big matchups, it would be pretty fun to see LSU develop a rivalry week game that both fan bases look forward to with a mutually hated rival.

Arkansas thinks we are their rival. They have been so bad for so long though. It was much more enjoyable at thanksgiving with my arkansas in laws

LSU doesn't have a true rival, which I think is a good thing. Instead, there is a lot of history and a lot of hate with a lot of teams. Given the fact that Alabama has owned us recently, they are the game we currently focus on. But we really hate Florida. And we really hate Ole Miss and Auburn. And we seem to really really hate A&M, not so much as a rival. We just hate them. And even though they've been down, we still seem to get fired up to play Arkansas.
Bottom line is having a main rival takes some of the juice out of the others. I think having a bunch of smaller rivalries keeps us more focused throughout the season.

I agree with this. I hate that it changes. That's the problem with not having another good football program in that state. The problem with all of these rivals is we list them as rivals, but they would never list us... so technically it's not a rival. I think Tulane was the only true rival we have ever had.
