I never saw Pete play at LSU. I did see him on Nov 5,1975 when the Jazz beat the Lakers at the Dome and set an NBA single game attendance record.
Pete went off radar when his NBA career was finished.
Shaq is everywhere and a larger than life personality that Pete wasn't.
Overall, I have to say Shaq.

In the LSU fanbase it’s Pete, worldwide it’s Shaq

Shaq not being dead for the past 40 years really helps his case.

That is untrue. I saw him play on the freshman team before we moved away. I was 6 or so. I honestly don’t remember anything, but I know my family watched him.

Well a few of us old guys still around that saw Pete play live. First time I saw him play he scored 50+ and made a behind the back pass from half court to the basket for easy layup . Love Shaq, but Pete was greatest college player ever!

Pete was before my time so he's more of a mythical figure for me.
like a Babe Ruth would be in baseball.
Just a god that was hanging out with mere mortals.
I'm not much younger than Shaq so I remember him well at LSU.
Shaq was dominant and amazing to see, but there is just something about legends before your time that just have a special aura about them.
you stole my answer - was at dale's camp when Pete was supposed to be the guest/keynote speaker but passed away - had pizza every night with Shaq and Vernel that week on the steps of Kirby - one is mythical to me - the other a legend I was able to interact with - dad was in school with Pete - his stories are great - no wrong answer here

Unfair comparison. different eras and generations. Older ppl will say Pete, younger will say Shaq.

IF ESPN existed when Pete was playing he'd have been almost Jordan'ish rep wise. But then Shaq has always shown LSU a lot of love, so it's hard to place him in second place. One & One A, flip either to whatever place you want, nobody would be wrong.

Shaw may be more revered, but The Pistol was in a class by himself. A truly phenomenal basketball player!

Sorry but I attended LSU when Pete was playing and saw all of his home games. No one compared to him.

I saw both of them play, and I'm thankful for both. I don't think they're comparable; they competed in two completely different eras of basketball in two different positions. They're both LSU legends. I'm just grateful that both played at LSU and that Shaq is still around representing us.

I did. He used to fill the cow palace up. Then the new arena with his name. He could make any shot.
Shaw could not make free throws. He is a great asset for LSU, but no way the ball player that Pete was.

I seen him play as a freshman and on.

Depends on age.
40 and under - Shaq
40-50 - mix
Over 50 - Pete

Over 50 - Pete

I saw both play many, many times. To this day, Pete is the greatest COLLEGE basketball player I have ever seen play for the P&G. In spite of not being able to play as a freshman and not having a three point line, he is the most prolific scorer in LSU history. He made the first team All American team all three of his years.
