Delpit
He's just as good a tackler as Reid and Landry and he's better in coverage.

Adams was good, but he’s also one of the most overrated players in recent memory.
Again, he was good, but out of Laron, Reid, Delpit and Adams, Jamal would be #4.

I love Delpit, but I’ll never forget the interception Reid made at Bama in 2011.

Lets not forget about Craig Steltz. He was a darn good safety also.

Jamal Adams - 99
Laron Landry - 97
Grant Delpit - 97
Eric Reid - 96

I loved the Stelz man. Played with smarts and was as tough as nails

People are going crazy over Delpit identifying the play on the fake FG this week. Eric Reid breaking off and making that play in 2011 was 10x better than Delpit running down some slow arse kicker on a fake FG.
Having said that, Delpit will be better than Laron Landry and Eric Reid by the time he leaves LSU.
Reid and Landry were physically much more intimidating than Delpit. Delpit is much more of a ball hawk and instinctive than either of them though.
Mathieu is GOT

Tough to compare since today's safeties (adams my pick) have to do such much more than play centerfield and crack somebody's head.
Adams & Delpit can play at the line and have a higher volume of football IQ (delpit on the fake FG)

Overrated?? Why would you say that? Adams is smaller than all those guys and still a force. You have to be pretty damn athletic when you're not 6'2" 215 pounds. He's like 6' 205 and can tackle or cover anyone. His recognition skills are top notch. He's smart, physical, can cover and play run support.
I think those guys are also great but Adams was picked in the top 10 for a good reason. He's an elite player. I think using overrated is a bit loose. Delpit is a great player and what's scary is that he has much more room to grow. Mathieu and Adams both reached their full potential while at LSU but still plenty good enough for Elite status in the NFL. Reid's actions of late have turned me off from him honestly. It's not because of what he's doing or the cause, it's because he can obviously see it affecting him and still doesn't care to let his dedication to the issue evolve into another venue or event.
If your goal is to bring attention to the issue, then you pick a positive venue or event to bring it to for people to actually listen. It would have worked sooooo much better if they would have done it for 2 or 3 weeks, didn't respond to the chatter, then stopped, got on ESPN and announced that they wouldn't do it again but just wanted to bring it to people's attention, bad or good. They knew people wouldn't agree with the venue but that it would generate all this publicity so they went ahead. Now that they have everyone's attention, they'll bring it to the proper venues and events.
The way they doing it now just makes them look disrespectful, rebellious, angry and dumb. You can adjust what you're doing and be much more successful. They would have gotten sooo much more respect if they had respected people's wishes and actually told everyone it was part of the plan the whole time. Would have looked much more genious too.
You can't go against the public's opinion and expect to sell something like this. It's a debatable issue not some real problem in this country. Racism back in the 50's and 60's was real. It's still real but not like these morons are acting like its some wide spread problem. It's not. It's a hack is what it is. But you could have still gotten some people to fall in line with this if they hadn't been so abrasive about it.
Sorry I went off the rails a bit.

Landry was a ball hawk his 1st yr then he was a straight terror as a blitzer from then on. Reid was a great eraser as a freshman and sophomore and was a decent cover safety on TEs and 3rd/4th wrs his jr yr. Adams would probably be higher on the interception list if he caught the ball better his career but as run defender he filled his lane at a awesome rate and speed. GD9 has been all this as freshman and sophomore year and its only going to get better that is what makes him potentially better than all of them

Landry and Reid we're maybe more physical in the run game being bigger safety's.
Not saying this is you, but a lot of people show their age by only thinking of Landry as the pumped up freak he became in the NFL.
Landry was 6’2 205 as a senior and was like 190 as an All American freshman.
He was an absolute freak of an athlete, which is actually what he was recruited as, the #5 athlete in the entire country, and fast as hell with outstanding ball skills and instincts.
He was a dual threat QB in high school that ran for 700 yards and threw for almost 2000. His experience as a QB gave him unique understanding and vision as a DB, which made him an immediate starter as a true freshman on a national championship team and probably the best defense in LSU history.
He was a terror to the SEC for four years, all fantastic defenses, and a consensus All American in his senior season for another outstanding defense, and was the #6 pick in the NFL Draft after HE RAN A frickING 4.35 at the combine at 213 pounds

I love Delpit, Reid, Adams, and CJ3, but Laron Landry is behind only Mathieu as the best DB in the modern history of DBU (not including Casanova in this), and is the best safety we’ve ever had imo.
One of my favorite recruiting stories is Saban went to Hahnville and Landry, primarily a QB, was working at several positions for him and Saban asked if he could cover one of the receivers. Landry screamed “Cover him?? I’ll KILL him!!” and proceeded to make a pick then toss the WR off of him as he tried to tackle him and stand over him barking

LL30 FTW

The talent in Louisiana is amazing. Landry, Delpit, Steltz, Chad Jones, Mathieu, and Reid all came from Louisiana. But LSU missed out on Ed Reed, who is arguably one of the best safeties ever to play in the NFL.

I would let Delpit play one full season before having this conversation.

What's better? A pound of solid gold coins, gold bars or gold jewelry?
I'd be happy with any of the three.

Does 2017 not count?
To answer the OP:
Landry is the most gifted safety I've seen at LSU (Mathieu only played safety in a couple of games, but would be #1)
Reid, Adams, Jones and Delpit are all in the 2nd tier. This isn't a knock as tier 2 is still elite.

Left out Tommy Casanova. 3x all American, 3x All SEC, 3x pro bowler and 1x All Pro in the NFL. He was also a damn good punt returner at LSU and with the Bengals.
