re: Who is advising Ed Alexander?

My cousin’s husband was practice squad with 49ers. He made less than $80,000. With the tax rate in Cali and rent (the practice guys live in San Jose because SF is too expensive) he didn’t make any real money.

That's definitely a concern, Drizz when you factor in the taxes and the agent fee. But, still 80k isn't an amount to sneeze at. It's really up to the individual. I don't think he's gonna find another job for 80k plus benefits his first year out of college.

What's better an $80,000 dollar job for a year. Or let's just say for 3 years. Or a $40,000 for 30 years?

Same peeps that told Sam Montgomery, Anthony Johnson, Toby Weatherby to go make their millions I guess
Freak and Toby knew they would MAYBE be a 7th rounder. Well they werent.

That depends on if the school will honor the scholarship in x number of years when his football career is over. You're assuming it's only going to be 3 years and that it's only going to be 80k. There are a number of undrafted free agents that go on to have have careers that are much longer.

and try to improve to the level of making guaranteed millions, and not have to hope to latch on to a practice squad.
I think that his knees are very arthritic. That is something that only gets worse with time. Though he has NFL talent his knees aren't going to allow a very long NFL career if one at all. Best for him to try to earn some money while he can.
HIs playing time had to be very limited and selective due to the more plays he gets in a game the more pain and longer recovery time he needs before he is able to practice or get back on the field again. It's a shame because of what could have been for him if he had just a normal injured knee type situation instead of this.

I just will never think it's a smart decision. Hopefully he proves me wrong. But I don't see it. In one breath you are saying he might have an NFL career, and in the next you are saying he needs to go because his knees are too bad. Those two things don't go together.
Obviously he is free to make whatever choice he wants, and I hope for the best, but I think it's a bad move.

makes sense to me that he’d wanna try to get his money while he’s relatively healthy. high chance of him getting injured since he gets injured constantly
most, if not all, of his so called injury issues are all the same thing, bad knees.
Not to mention, they may be able to manage his knee situation better in the pros as well.

Most people aren't going to make real money in the NFL, period.
Alexander could come back and it's likely that his prospects of making an NFL team don't improve much if at all. Maybe he just wants to give it a shot before his mileage is used up.

Honestly, I am only going off what people are saying on here about his knees. If he only has limited years of being able to offer quality play, then he should maximize that IMO. Of course, it could absolutely be a mistake but wouldn't he be able to go back and finish school? That's assuming that his academics are in good standing. I think there are probably a number of factors that we aren't aware of and I'm always going to support the player if he decides to get paid.

yeap, it seems contrarian, but staying playing college another year just uses up one year of whatever limited usage he has with his knees. I would guess the NFL is a larger goal of his than a degree. I would have to think he is very much a longshot to have any sort of NFL career however (but not due to his talent level)

At best $129, probably net $90. Subtract $40 for one year of college he has to pay to finish and he is doing this for $50K.
Lol, 1 year of school isn't 40k.

No, the worst case is he gets hurt again and can’t even make a practice squad.
The chances of his playing his way into guaranteed millions is remote anyway. The school isn’t going anywhere so it’s it like he could never get a degree if he leaves now

I really like what Ed Alexander has been able to do when he was able to get on the field and wish he would bring it another year at LSU and while I normally don't like when juniors leave for the NFL, in his situation I get it. Best of luck to him and

No, but he may make the late rounds. Next year would be his year to make waves.
Decision probably costs him a few million

If the above is true, he's not going to "earn some money while he can".
If he knees aren't that bad, or the condition can be improved with surgery, then that changes everything.

Dumb move.Had the opportunity to come back and raise his stock but maybe he just never wanted to put in the work to get paid.
