How exactly is that supposed to scare the other team?

There are many who claim it was intimidating. If that was the case, those players must have been real chickens and had probably never been to a zoo.

It was cool, but it’s the type of thing that brings unwanted PETA-esque attention to the university. It’s a great piece of LSU lore, but I don’t know that it would be a good idea to bring back.

Those frickers would rather see the tiger released and killed.

I saw my first LSU game in person in 1970.

Always a great thing and exciting tradition.

Tulane really screwed up when they left the SEC. Georgia Tech did too but they landed up in a better conference than Tulane. When I lived in BAMA some old guys would tell me about the hatred Georgia Tech and Bama had for each other. They told me that back in the old days the rivalry between Tech and Bama was unmatched at the time. One guy told me that back in the old days Auburn and Bama rarely played each other. Another guy told me that Auburn and Tech were becoming rivals and that Auburn had a parade during the week of the game called The Wreck Tech parade. Many Tech fans are still mad that Tech isn't in the SEC.

Remember it well. Cheerleaders riding on the top of the mobile cage. Man that was a long time ago. Mike was living in ghetto housing at that time. Remember ROTC and having to scream good morning Mike the Tiger Sir with my bald head from having my hair scalped. Still way better than life in the Jungles of Nam which was the alternative to LSU at the time.

I don't remember the last time I saw Mike in the stadium, but I do remember they couldn't get Mike V to roar for a long time (ever?). They introduced him at a Bama basketball game when we was a cub and gave him a stuffed elephant that he proceeded to destroy on the court.

The last time I saw the event was against San Jose state, Dumnardo’s last season. I always thought it was the coolest thing. My son was with me , I told him if Mike escaped from that cage, run as far away from the mascot tiger as you can. That will be the first person he goes for.

To many of us it is hard to believe Mike is not in there anymore.

bullshite field level fireworks were much more important for the ADD riddled fanbase. The LED lighting is to further appease them.

Upon returning to in front of the student section, some cheerleaders and the human mascot would yell and pound on the cage to get a response from Mike.

Not how they did it. There was a segment on inside LSU football about this while I was a student.

Dad passed away last year at the age of 86. He attended LSU from 1954-1956. He would say you were "misinformed". Back then, there were only bars for Mike's cage. Dad said once Mike was parked outside the visitor's tunnel and the visiting team ran out, someone would take a metal cup and run it back and forth on the bars to get Mike to get up and roar/growl. He said it absolutely scared the poo out of the team running out on to the field. He said it actually scared him a few times.

That was when Mike I was in his latter years. One of Dad's best friends helped take care of Mike. Dad would go with him early in the morning during the winter months to roust Mike up and get him to walk around. He said the Vet school said it helped get his arthritis loosened up. Who knows? It was the 50's.

I got to see Mike cruise around the stadium in the cage for several decades before it was stopped. Given all the fireworks they use, the loud noise and the Ritz-Carlton he lives in, I doubt we'll ever see Mike cruising around TS again.

What a great tradition it was!!! It just wasn’t right after they quit doing it!
