Alabama and LSU are established programs. A kid is going to go where he wants to go whether Alabama wins or loses tonight.
You are correct in the fact that there is a lot of kids that will go to LSU or Alabama regardless and one game may not change that. However a change in a program can change one or two kids opinions on where they go.
If LSU was on stable footing in 2017 is there anybody who doesn’t believe we could have pulled a couple of players from devante smith, Dylan Moses, phodarian Mathis, Chris Allen, Travis Etienne, Brad Stewart, or Adrian Ealy? That is 7 kids from the state that walked out the door in 2017 that may all be drafted and play in the NFL.
There are many reasons for the failures of this season but the swing and misses on the transition from Les to Ed was a big reason. That’s not a shot at Ed it’s what happens to any program. So yes a little bit of failure by Alabama does help recruiting. You can say hey they are 0 for there last 2 championships and 2-3 in the last 5 championships they are starting to look like Oklahoma. Maybe that is enough to sway a kid or 2 and that might be enough.

Even if you’re a “SEC!” type, it’s hard not to root for the underdog. That last game was exciting. Bama and Clemson are boring.
