re: Who do you consider to be the biggest bust in LSU football history?

For me, it's Maason Smith
What a terrible take. One of the worst ever in this board. And that is an impressive feat.
Maason Smith had a damn good freshman year. No way he could be considered a bust.
He got injured in the first drive of his second year and was still recovering as a junior.
By the end of last season he was starting to get back to form.
He’s not even in the top 100 “busts”.

Do we classify Ryan Perilloux as a bust
He won the SECCG when Flynn was hurt. So no
A knucklehead but not a “bust”

Myles was awesome his starting year
Myles Brennan was a classic figure straight out of a Greek tragedy, for LSU football.
The one year he started for LSU was actually his fourth season as a Tiger. He shined in the three games he started during 2020, the third playing nearly a half in excruciating pain.
In 2017 as a scrawny 17-year-old kid he played in several games, with mixed results. His first appearance was vs Syracuse midway through the third quarter; his first drive was a thing of beauty-- he had one amazing scramble for a first down, and completed 2/2 passes for 49 yards; the drive ended in a TD and a 28-10 lead after Darrell Williams spun into the endzone on a 20 yard scamper. This drive, IMO, was the REAL Myles. His second drive that game, which went into the 4th quarter, was less distinguished, going 2/4 for 29 yards leading to an INT. The next game vs Troy Myles came in after a 0-17 deficit and played well and led the Tigers to two TDs in a losing effort. In his only other significant action in 2017, he came in late vs Bama in a game already lost and failed to move the team. This is the 2017 game, and the Brennan everybody remembers.
After gaining weight and shaping up off-season, what happened in 2018 was the worst thing that could happen for Myles: Joe Burrow joined Tiger Nation. Needless to say, Myles Brennan saw only limited action in 2018 and 2019 and what could have been a brilliant reign as Tiger royalty failed to materialize.

Danielle Hunter: sure made up for it in NFL thoug
Wouldn’t call him a bust. He was very good at doing exactly what the coaches asked him to do.
Problem was those same coaches wasted his potential. That’s not on him.

There's a spectrum for this that extends from say overrated-underachiever to disappointment to bust.
Much of this is baselined against expectations which are largely shaped by recruiting star rankings.
Someone whose career was hampered by injuries - I wouldn't consider them a busr.

Dude, Gilbert was probably the best Tight End in the SEC as a freshman. He just had mental issues. That does not constitute as being a bust.
Clifton Garrett 100% bust.
Xavier Carter was a track guy trying to play football.

Coaches wouldn’t find a position to play. They had no imagination on how to get him the ball. Not his fault.
He managed to play in the NFL for 7 or 8 years.
He was a great recruiter for LSU.

Cecil fricking Collins. Kid just oozed talent at the position and couldn't get his shite together.

Justin Vincent blowing through the line on the first play from scrimmage vs OU is that play for me. Primarily because at that moment my old man leaned over and said 'if there's a talent gap here, it's in our favor'.

An underrated true statement.

Shepherds' failure was not his fault, it was Les Miles gross predictability. Every time he brought RS into the game the whole stadium knew it was a direct snap run and he still usually got good yardage. CLM never let him pull up and throw the ball one time. The NFL proved how horribly he was used here.

Malachi had so much untapped potential though. Respectable that he was actually able to bounce around on a few NFL active rosters even during regular season but like the other dude said, he was way too soft.

Dude, Arik Gilbert was the best TE in the SEC as a freshman pre season.
His career here was 368 yards and then he "opted out" of the rest of the season b/c he was a head case.
Straight up bust.

Ratphuc Hobley. Never made it to campus!

None. Every one of the former players at least tried and did their best. If it didn’t live up to fans expectations so be it.

Marc Ippolito. Orlando McDaniel
