A team like VCU would certainly fit that bill.

Yeah, I'm starting to think they were the team.

Surprised more people dont think it was Washington. They have to travel to start the season and Jason Kelly was there, wouldnt be surprised if him and Jay with the connection there had them coming here to open the season or the other series that was replaced. Eddie Smith getting there was probably like 3 game road trip to LSU with Jay's machine running strong now, LOL NO.

Washington ended up going to Coastal Carolina for a 4 game weekend where they played Kansas St 1x, Coastal Carolina 1x and St. Johns 2x.

Eddie Smith also was the last hitting coach under Mainieri here and obviously wasnt retained once Jay came in. He spent 3 years at Utah Valley and then got hired by Washington for this year. Young coach (41) at his first big job now. They ended up going 2-2 at Coastal Carolina's tournament thing over the weekend.

Curious if Johnson picked Purdue-FW because they're the same colors and he was trying to make a hint without outing the coach. That theory seems too convenient though.

He took the UVU job before that would have even been a discussion.

He also still holds LSU in very high regard. The way he talked about his time here is a big reason Danny Dickinson is here.

I don't think he likes to have nothing but complete butt asses on the schedule.

Virginia Military Institute, Northern Illinois, and Stoney Brook all seem to fit that description

Typically the first series is a northern smaller school.

VCU and Washington certainly fit the bill of schools to play here pre-conference, but not the first series.

I still don't understand why he left Washington.

He had a connection to the school. I know they struggled last season and got hit hard by the portal... and the prospect of playing at crappy B1G teams probably was not super appealing.

But U-Dub probably could have been dominant in the B1G. He then could have bounced that into a bigger HC job.

I’m sure he’s making more at A&M. Google search says his salary is not public, but a post on the A&M board says he was making around $300k at UW.
Just sucks that he’s at A&M. His appearances on Mahtook’s show in 2022 were some of the funniest coach interviews I’ve ever seen.

Based on Jay's previous comments, I don't think the opening weekend is the only one that changed.
You’re correct, there were two that backed out. Although opening weekend was much more difficult to find a replacement. We owe PFW.

I just picked a name off the list that is decently recognizable in NCAA baseball. It put zero effort into it.

Purdue Fort Wayne has been on the schedule since at least September 12th. The most recent snapshot before that was in July and it still showed the 2024 schedule.

That was when they officially announced the schedule. There have been no changes since it was announced.

Any changes referenced would have been before it was finalized.

Informally there were people posting future opponents here. I tried to search for those but could find them. I don't remember them mentioning VCU.

The only game or series I remember specifically was a 2023 or 2024 midweek game against Florida State in Biloxi that didn't materialize. I know others were posted about here, I just don't remember the specific teams.

LSU never officially posted them, which is more to your point than anything else I said here.
