You do realize that LSU ponies up that money for the insurance policy?

The impact of White staying if he stays would be bigger than any recruit or recruits that we could reel in. You have to think the other defensive guys that are probably on the fence about going pro (none of which should) would no doubt come back and the depth chart would then be littered with high end talent and alot of experience. I think he should no doubt go pro, but if he wants to go the insurance route and play his senior season, LSU could possibly field it's greatest defense ever. He obviously would have a real shot at back to back Butkus awards, another All-American, cement his legacy as the GOAT linebacker in our history and possibly overall defensive player ever. He's already in that conversation as it is. It would make him a legend at LSU and would be a pleasure to watch next season.

Shhh.

Idiots around here don't understand that. People in Louisiana are super greedy. That makes sense when you think about how corrupt our politics are. It's not like our politicians are some special subset of Louisiana culture. It's just a snippet of Louisiana general population. Fun-loving and easy going but simple-minded, corrupt, greedy and nepotistic.

Devin White is from as far north Louisiana as you can get. I guess he doesn't really fit that mold. The culture described above originated out of south Louisiana. As we all know, North Louisiana is more culturally similar to Arkansas or Northeast Texas

Life's a series of trade-offs and I would still prefer Louisiana's culture to any other in the United States. I've lived in other states and while their infrastructure and economy is better, talk about boooooring.

I think we have had some good to great ones and White is right up there but I don't even know how White is in pass coverage.
I am too busy watching him make tackles and blitzing qb's. I put white and Michael Brooks neck and neck as the two best college linebackers at LSU with Bradie James third.

Here we go with this again. Didn’t work out so well this year. Nowhere near enough DL depth for it to even come close next year.

Sounds like it's time for an LSU fan, crowdsourced, Gofundme page.

If the REC is going to REC through their back channels, LSU should just dive through that loophole and make direct contributions to LSU players and recruits to "convince" them to sign with LSU and stay through their senior season.

I mean, is there some NCAA rule against some random people starting a GoFundMe page for some athletes under officially stated reasons other than athletics? Like, can we start a GoFundMe page to buy Devin White a 'new horse'? Like maybe, a $750,000 'horse'?

We could all just think of it as it TAF contribution. If they're going to take all that TAF money and just Bo-Bahnsen-Compliance the shite out of it anyway, we should just cut out the middleman and go right to the source.

Disagree. Not that any of our DL have Dorsey potential, but a DL depth chart of:

DE: Lawrence/Ferrell/Cotton
NT: Ed/Shelvin/Livingston
DE: Fehoko/Logan/Jenkins/Thomas

Is DEEP. That’s not even counting any incoming freshman.

I agree here. Another year under all these guys’ belts in Aranda’s system is nothing but upside for all of them

Ahhh. That's something we didn't think of. That people from North Louisiana are pillars of moral virtue untainted by the disease of greed and interest in wealth that emanates from south Louisiana, which has been called the Manhattan of the Southeastern US.

Look, I hope the kid does whatever makes him most happy. He's put himself in position of having the luxury to decide between two great choices. If he wants to play his final year at LSU, great! But he doesn't have to do that to cement his place as one of, perhaps the best LB to have every played at LSU.

However, all this talk about money isn't "everything" is silly. Regardless of who you are you still need some degree of income to live. Even if he comes back to school, eventually he's going to have to earn a living in some form or fashion. This kid has an opportunity RIGHT NOW to earn more money than 99% of the people on this board will ever earn in their lifetimes. Enough money that will allow him the freedom to live whatever life he chooses free from many of the restraints of someone else telling him what he does and does not have to to.

Now, assuming he stays healthy, he will have that opportunity again next season. But that obviously comes with significant risk. Plus, the window to earn a great living in his particular profession is very small and once it closes, it's over.

Personally I think he truly loves playing at LSU. Moreso, he loves representing the people of his home state and his university. From all accounts he's a great kid. While it may be little tougher decision for him than most, I think he leaves (and NO ONE will, or should, fault him for that). This kid of opportunity is only presented to very select few people in this world and it will be one that is too good to pass up.

what's important to some is not to another.
it seems his LSU legacy allows him to wait on money.

good grief, it's not greedy for someone to jump at the chance to sign an 8-figure contract. It's common sense.

People in Louisiana are no more / no less greedy than in other places.

People are people.

Well, right now he is in the conversation with all time greats Michael Brooks and Bradie James. He comes back and gets a second All American, a second Butkus and, perhaps, a Nagurski?

He probably takes the top spot by a significant margin, then.

stop using YOUR brain ...
it is for each person to make that choice individually.

I can not tell you whether I would go or stay ..honestly.
None of us have been in that situation.
A lot of soul searching has to go into it.

It is only a black/white issue if MONEY is the only factor used.

No, LSU doesn't. The NCAA offers a limited disability coverage to exceptional student athletes, but nothing like what you are talking about.

You are talking about an LoV (Loss of Value) policy that is typically a rider on another Total Disability policy but this is not a part of what the NCAA offers. This is something the student athlete or his family can take out, but the school cannot pay the premium because it's an improper benefit.

When Fournette took out his TD and LoV policies, he and his family had to pay for it, but LSU could not.
