A recent CBSSports.com mock draft had him going with the 11th pick to Cincinnati. This year’s No. 11 pick, Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, received an initial contract of just south of $17 million. That kind of money will make up your mind for you.

Still, something clearly is tugging at White’s purple and gold heartstrings. Something surprisingly thoughtful in someone a couple months short of his 21st birthday.

A sense of history.

A sense of place.

A feeling of wanting not just to leave LSU rich, but to leave being beloved.

“I’m chasing something you can’t even give an award for,” said White, who last week became LSU’s first Butkus Award winner, a trophy handed out to the nation’s best collegiate linebacker. “I want to be the best LSU linebacker ever.”

quote:

“I don't know what he's going to do,” Queen said. “(But) he says he's going to stay. So if he stays, I'm ready for it

quote:

“I’ve been a part of Ray Lewis (at Miami),” Coach O said. “I’ve been a part of Patrick Willis (at Ole Miss). And he’s right in that group. No question. He’s one of the best I’ve ever been a part of as far as a middle linebacker. He’s very talented. And I still think he’s getting better.

"I think he’s going to have a tremendous pro career. He means a lot to us. He means a lot to the state of Louisiana. One of our best players, he could have opted not to play; but he has a lot of pride. He has unfinished business.”

quote:

“I think it’s still something I’m chasing at this point,” White said of being recognized as LSU’s best linebacker ever. “That’s why I know for sure that I can’t be all the way out.

“Being a team player, all my aspirations were championships, and we still haven’t won a championship. So, that kind of put a lot on my heart. I want to bring a championship to the great state of Louisiana.”

If he comes back he certainly could make a strong push for that claim.

People are really underestimating the impact that White will bring to the table next year. If he stays, it might light a fire under the other draft eligible players to stay.

Yeah, everyone knows the talent that White has, but when he's on the field, it's like the defense is playing with 12 players. If Lawrence and Fehoko stay, this will be one of the best defenses in LSU history.

Depth, senior leadership, and a senior QB

I think he's wrestling with the decision and believe he really is sincere. Whatever he decides, he's earned the respect and admiration of the Tiger Nation.

What's the 1 year premium to insure something like that?

As much as I want him to stay, White go get your money. You've cemented your legacy in purple and gold

White's impact transcends skill. He's the kind of player that elevates everyone around them.

Just take out a big insurance policy and come back Devin!!!! Of coarse the money is a big deal and in a similar situation I myself would probably take it. But I will say this, all the money in the world isn’t ever going to buy back that last year at LSU playing for the Tigers. If the man is truly that happy, then I can understand him coming back. The nfl will still be there in just a short year and like I said, he can take out a big insurance policy.

I do not think he will stay (but, I believe he sincerely WANTS to).

If he does stay, I swear on my mother's grave that I will contribute to any GoFundMe to make sure that dude never has to work again (if he were to be injured). I'd do whatever I could to assure he is a wealthy man no matter what.

Again, I expect him to relent and go pro. But, I can enjoy the dream.

What's the interest rate on a loan to pay the premium to get the policy?

I think he’s arguably done enough to check this box. Seems he wants it to be undisputed though. Either way can’t wait to see him play next year, whether as a Tiger or in the NFL!

Money isn’t everything but $22 million, if managed properly, will set he and his entire family for life. That’s not even looking at second contract. He needs to go pro if he’s going to be drafted that high.

He has given sweat and blood to LSU and has done it the right way. He owes us nothing and now needs to actually think of his future. I love that he wants to stay and win, but I have a hard time letting a top 15 pic stay

The sanctimonious “he needs to go” crowd littering this board is so nauseating. Maybe he’s smart enough to make his own damn decision?

He “needs” to do WTF he wants to do because he’s earned the option of becoming a millionaire immediately or risking a lot of money to delay his professional career for a season and becoming one of the most legendary football players to ever wear the purple and gold. God I wish you people would stfu with your “he’s dumb if he comes back” BS.

Thankfully, Ponamsky’s agent running days are behind him.
