Didn't the 96 team finish top 5 in the country in both ERA and Batting average? Sounds like the best team to me

This year’s, but they underachieved.

the team won all 4 of its CWS games by BIG margins
Not exactly sport. It took a late inning home run from Larson to beat Rice by a run in our first game.

Shows you don’t need to excel in all 3 phases to be successful.
1996 team finished with a .963 fielding average.
2022 team .962.

This is an opinion that I would expect from an Astros fan.

My bad it was 2000 that we had an easy ride to the CWS, and finished the season on a 13 gm winning streak.

People forget how bad fielding teams some of Skip’s teams were. We had some of the worst fielding 3B I’ve ever seen. But it didn’t matter because they hit 20-25 homers.

Combine the hitter bats and changed balls and you see 130 HRs from 60 or what the frick ever was hit in 2009 by that fricking cast of MLB level talented players.
‘09 hit 109 homers I believe.
I think the ‘91 team doesn’t get enough credit for all time LSU teams.
They plowed through Omaha like a bulldozer.

good amount for that time.
1996 we had like 130 homers
1997 tho we set NCAA record with 188 homers
GORILLA BALL!

Hard to argue with 1993:
2b Walker - MLB
SS Johnson - MLB
CF Rios - MLB
Warren Morris - MLB
P Schultz - MLB
P Sirotka - MLB
Plus Harry Berrios and Brett Laxton.

91 is my favorite. I got to go to Omaha that year after my Jr. Year of high school. That Mouton HR off John Burke in game 1 was all time bomb.

I doubt it's the best LSU Baseball, but the one I caught as a kid and still have to this day is my personal favorite
Al kidding aside, my vote is for the 97 team

Which is? Players used the same bats in the 90’s? Because that is a fact.
Players used the same balls in the ‘90’s? Because they did.
From the rubber to home plate was 60’6” in the 90’s as it is today? Because it is.
How about this fact:
BALCO chief Victor Conte told IRS agents that among those he sold “the cream” and “the clear” to, and advised on how to use them “so they can increase athletic performance without getting caught by the testers,” was former LSU player Armando Rios. Conte also implicated Barry Bonds (Arizona State), Jason Giambi (Long Beach State), Jeremy Giambi (Cal State Fullerton), and Gary Sheffield in the same manner.
Brian Roberts, a two-time All-Star from South Carolina, was implicated by former player Larry Bigbie, who was his roommate along with David Segui in Baltimore during the 2001 season. Bigbie claimed that Roberts didn’t participate when he and Segui used steroids in the house, but later admitted to injecting himself once or twice in 2003.
Former Mississippi State standout Adam Piatt voluntarily admitted to using performance enhancing substances and accepted responsibility for his actions. Piatt said a viral infection in 2001 caused him to lose 24 pounds in 10 days and sapped his strength.
On the balls…
At all divisions, the NCAA made the switch from using raised-seamed baseballs commonly found in high school leagues to flat seams that are very similar to those used throughout the minor leagues. The seams were lowered from . 048 inches to . 031, which doesn't seem like much.Apr 23, 2015
On to the bats:
The fact is the composite like the LVille Slugger Meta’s in 32” are allowed to be used and have pop. It is known that composites over time degrade to the point that it gets hotter until it breaks which makes sense. Think about swinging a composite golf club versus an aluminum. Check out the type of bats that Tenn uses.
Down vote all you want those of you from today that think this HR surge isn’t tied to the fricking equipment. It is assholes.
Oh you shite that want to talk about the Astros, please explain the last 5 fricking years and this season after the Yankees, Redsox were among the fricking teams that got caught in 2017 AND THE ASTROS MAKING 3 of the last 5 fricking WS.
frick you and have a nice day.

That’s right. 2011-12 is when BB Core came in. So 09 had the bats after the late 90’s change ie reduced the drop.

I remember having lunch with Coach Bertman about 7 or 8 years ago and I asked him this question.
He said the best team he ever had didn't win the CWS. I found that rather interesting considering the great teams that won it.
