The equivalent of its own 2019 LSU football team, if you will…
What year? Why?

1998 still pisses me off. fricking cold front

97 is recognized by most lsu fans as the best championship team but ive heard 98 was better but was upset in omaha

98 was very much the same as 97, just gotta give the edge to 97 for obvious reasons

2009 team was pretty stellar too

1997, no real competition for that honor. Not only did LSU make it easily to the CWS, the team won all 4 of its CWS games by BIG margins, won its last 7 games in a row, and played all four CWS games wearing its purple jerseys, which have somehow since fallen out of favor.
That team was majestic!

I liked the pitching we had in 96 but hard to argue against 97 team. But man Yarnall,Shipp, and Laxton were beast.Top to bottom baseball team it’s closer between those two than most give credit for prolly tho but the majority will prolly agree with 1997

2009 was dominant pretty much all season long, and then had a decent amount of dudes eventually make it to the show.
Nola, LeMahieu, Mahtook, Coleman, Ranaudo, Schimpf.
Not to mention, Jared Mitchell was a first round pick.
It's hard to compare that team to the Bertman teams because the bats made it a completely different game. But if there is any team that can be in the discussion with the 97 team, it's 2009.

1997 gets my vote, although 98 was right there on the cusp!

1986 was a phenomenal team. LSU's 1st at the CWS. The roster was full of future MLB and AAA players.

Yes--I remember that the wind was blowing in and any LSU fly ball that could have been a dinger was caught short of the fence. Frustrating.

The 2000 team beat some good teams in Omaha

Ok I’m done with this total horseshite.
ALL frickING TEAMS PLAYED WITH THE SAME BATS AND ALL PLAYERS WERE JUICING NO frickING DIFFERENT THAN MLB.
You still have to fricking hit the fricking ball and that is hard to do.
What also is fricking hard to do IF THE frickING BATS WERE ALL THAT IS FIELD THE DAMN THING COMING OFF THEM THAT frickING FAST ASSHOLES.
LAastly, PEOPLE ARE ON CRACK IF THEY FOR ONCE BELIEVE THR BBCORE BATS ARE THE SAME AS THE FIRST ONES INTRODUCED!
They have more FLEX!
IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT THE BALLS ARE Minor League Baseballs with lower seams and probably a little harder to push the boundaries of the spec range.
Combine the hitter bats and changed balls and you see 130 HRs from 60 or what the frick ever was hit in 2009 by that fricking cast of MLB level talented players.

This is quite false. The 97 team lost early in the regional. We were a base hit by Long Beach st from being eliminated. Had to beat south Alabama twice to make it to Omaha. Coogan was clutch against LBSU which is why we made it.

This is an offseason thread. No need to elevate your BP.

We also damned near lost the opening game to Rice. Brandon Larson jacked a 98 mph pitch to give us the lead. A clutch catch in the last inning (line drive) was pivotal. We walked after that but getting through the regional and the first game of the CWS was tough.

2009 lost to Nicholls which then lost to Loyola.
