The Astros changed his swing immediately and that is that

of course they did. the ball he hits is now livelier and the fences at minute maid (left field) are short as shite. and his BA has taken a huge drop because of that. but that fits with this current astro team and their ball park.

IF PM would have changed his swing Bregman would have been a can of corn hitter. the ball was dead and the left field fences further.

and that is that.

if you are crediting his increase in homers solely to a swing change you are full of shite.

His surge in power began before he ever played a game at Minute Maid. You’ve proven time and time again you know very little about the game and even less about the Astros.

According to the man himself, he wasn’t asked to hit for power in college due to the changes in the bats. His swing was designed and executed for average

Coaching decisions may have been an issue but it wasn’t because he didn’t know how

And I’m no fan of our hitting coaches but stop with the ignorance

I’m confused what you’re getting at?

Most people here are saying that Paul Maranara doesn’t have hitting coaches worth a frick and you keep bringing up a player (over and over) from 30 years ago to prove a point thatLSU current does have hitting coaches.

The fact that there’s no coaching of the nuances of hitting speaks volumes. Kids like Alex still shine but don’t reach their full potential. Not every kid is Alex. Coaching matters.

I used to go to Spring training to watch my Yankees every year. I watched ARod Jeter and Giambi one year hit off a tee for an hour a day with a diff instructor grooving their swing. Hitting instruction does matter

Too many responses to read but the easiest answer is...

PRACTICE!!!

I grew up being taught and believing that tee work was one of the most important things you could do as a hitter.

However modern trends are going away from that philosophy. The Astros, who have been the best offensive team in the mlb over the last 3 years, have almost abandoned the tee entirely at the minor league level.

They have one tee for the whole clubhouse and it is off limits to players except when getting one on one coaching with a coach.

They’ve moved to preferring high intensity batting practice with a live pitcher and pitching machines.

Not really an argument against you but it’s pretty interesting fact imo

He hit 6 6 and 9 HRs at LSU vs College pitching

I broke it down year by year and there was improvement each year from his freshman season. Matter of fact, his HR to At Bat ratio was nearly the same his JR season to his second MLB season.

quote:

That’s someone more than natural progression.

I take it what you mean by natural progression is aging only, which is not what I said. I just said how he progressed. I never made the distinction between natural or unnatural or any other form of progression.

quote:

You don’t go from being an average HR hitter in college to an elite HR power hitter in the pros with just growing.

And I didn't say that you do. I said, "definitely getting stronger and has had more practice swinging the bat."

quote:

He either changes his approach or started juicing

I don't think changing his approach alone would make him a better power hitter. But juicing would, because, like I said, would make one stronger. And I am not saying he is juicing, just saying he is older and has had more time lifting weights and practicing hitting.

Not because of great hitting instruction. And lots of oppo flares during his first two years.

How much better might AD have been with some really good coaching and a great approach each game?

I remember listening to Todd Walker on a radio interview. He said he could have use rhoids and hit more home runs but chose not to. It was that simple.

Been happening at an alarming rate in the mlb the last few years. He’s 100% changed his approach. That encompasses changing his bath path as well as the pitches he is hunting. Right from his mouth

Yep and he's become a more patient hitter. He's seeing more pitches and waiting for pitches he wants.
