re: Where is Bregman’s MLB power from? Only 21 HR’s at LSU 3 years

Yep! Then the TR can move on to the next sport's coaches!

Most college & mlb coaches do not yet understand the launch angle phenomenon. The majority of these players seeing spikes in power are learning from independent entities and minor league specialty coaches.
The Astros are the pinnacle of player development right now.
Pitching coaches are ahead of hitting coaches right now though.

The Astros changed his swing immediately. I guess my point is, AJ hinch isn’t the one leading the charge on that. They have both analyst & specialist coaches that a college program just can not afford to have

Bregman hit the ball insanely hard for the majority of his career at LSU. But he had a habit of lining out to left field. He lined out in that direction so often that, after a while, I stopped calling it "bad luck" and and just started saying "that's what he gets for pulling everything". He was much more balanced as a freshman in going to all fields.
As a pro, two things have changed that lead to his power surge: He started hitting all of those line drives a little higher (anyone could have forecast that all those line drives would turn into home runs if he just got under it slightly), and he started using the whole field again, which meant that pitchers can't just pick one spot to attack and get him out.
I don't think it's any more scientific than that. It sounds a lot easier than it actually is. You can tell a guy to hit the ball higher, but he might start popping it up. Bregman found the happy medium, as good hitters do.

Also have to remember he played in both the dead ball and dead bat era of college baseball. They didn’t upgrade the balls until after he left

Adam Banks has pointed it out, but Bregman started hitting with good power in the minor leagues not long after he left LSU. He has said in interviews that the professional coaches got him to lift the back more while Mainieri was coaching him to hit the ball on the ground.
Bregman should have destroyed college pitching, but instead was forced to be a singles hitter.

I'm pretty sure the original inference in this thread was that Bregman is taking PED's.
That's not necessarily true, at least I hope it isn't but can you blame the players if so?
So much $$$ out there to be made...

Were you around when Joey Belle was playing for LSU Lester?

I love watching Bregman take BP.
His swing is so short and compact.
And yes, I am sure he has better hitting coaching at the pro level.
I wish LSU would invest in a paid hitting coach.

He hit .337/.409/.514. That's pretty damn good.

Antoine Duplantis just finished his career as the SEC's second leading hitter in history. Get fricked..
Doesn't mean LSU has no need for a paid hitting coach.
I remember a team in Omaha whose worst starting hitter batted .280. I believe it was Lousville.. and the ACC has some great competition. Spare me the SEC competition BS in baseball. We struggled against FSU ourselves.

LSU certainly had a weak bottom of the batting order, but it's nothing good recruiting can't fix quickly.
And say what you will about Paul, but you can't really argue with his recruiting efforts. If anything, he sets his sights on guys too good to turn down pro contracts.

Well, lets do the math and see how he progressed over the years.
At LSU
Fr. HR every 47 AB
So. HR every 40 AB
JR. HR every 28 AB
MLB
RK. HR every 25 AB
2. HR every 29 AB
3. HR every 19 AB
4. HR every 13 AB
Looks like he has steadily gotten more capable of hitting HR's every season since he was a freshman at LSU. So I'd say maturing physically has given him the ability to swing the bat faster. He was actually hitting more HR's per AB his SR season at LSU than he did his 2nd season in MLB. Not by much, but a little. Definitely getting stronger and has had more practice swinging the bat.

If he left exactly as good as he arrived....
Did anyone teach him?
Did anyone teach him?

Well CPM is the guy who had Chris Reid bunt in order to let Hal Hughes come up to bat and try to bring a run home with his batting prowess.
Do you truly think that hitting coaching at LSU is worth a damn?
It isn't.
