Anyone have an idea what year this photo was taken? Not a car expert, so I have no clue what car that is or what year it might be.
It's Mike III in the cage, so it has to be 1958-76. There are some obvious flattop haircuts in the crowd. The car towing the trailer looks a lot like a 1958 Fairlane 500 Convertible. My guess would be 1958 or 1959.

Anyone that thinks it’s inhumane for a tiger to be in a cage for say 1.5 hours, and say 7 days out of 365 days in a year…is an absolute pussy.

My cat hated to be put in a cat carrier to be taken to the vet. But guess what, he did it.

Hope LSU brings this tradition back.

Get over it, man. They should put you in a cage and parade around the stadium,

Yeah that’s not the same at all

The derps who obsess over this are hilarious. “Duh, I own a cat so that makes me an expert in bengal tigers, duh!”

Were women not allowed at football games? And why is everybody wearing the same shirt?

Thanks Missouri and Salviati. My father was at LSU that year. He would’ve been a junior. There’s something about that photo that is so nostalgic. I appreciate the information!

I guess he doesn't hear those things in his cage. He must be using ear buds.

Seriously. It’s OK for 100k people and the band to be right outside his habitat screaming and yelling but it’s too much stress to go into the stadium. Where they’ve decided to draw the line is just absurd

Well to begin with they are not in cages and all three of them are perfectly capable of ruining someone's day.

None of them apex predators, and some of those animals run in large herds… some livestock… are you trolling or really this dense?

No … these noble animals are not entertainment toys . Ideally , they should be in their own environment , even if they dont live longer . At least they will enjoy their life . We get tigers that have been in captivity . That is OK . They dont need to be subjected to over 90 decibels of noise in a stadium of thousands of screaming fans in a cage .

I remember hearing the story (from quiet a few years ago) where they were transporting Mike (to maybe a close road game) and the lock on the cage came undone but the gate remained closed but he could have gotten out going down the road. Imagine that scenario ??

In the 80's some Tulane fans let Mike out of his cage and he was wandering around Nicholson Hwy for a bit before they caught him in Bernie Moore stadium.

I can tell you the exact date. January 1, 1959. Sugar Bowl, New Orleans. LSU 7 - Clemson 0.
I think you're wrong.

The high temperature in New Orleans on January 1, 1959, was 49 degrees. That crowd is clearly not dressed for sub-50 degree temperatures.

Peta can suck a fat one. I want to hear that cat roar outside the visiting locker room.

It’s not PETA. It’s the people who actually devote their profession/time at LSU to caring for the Tiger.

Perhaps I am mistaken. It was included in some photographs of the 1959 Sugar Bowl. Someone could have pulled a fast one.

That is a great photo. What's with all of the rice picking hats? I'm assuming reference to Chinese Bandits. I didn't know about the pajama tradition.

Yeah, all the old Mike's were always super willing to get in the cage. That's why they had to tranq them, bait them, and electro prod them to do it.

Since when did this become the PETA board?

How about we drug you, cow prod you and put your arse in a cage and drag your arse around the stadium while people scream at you.
We have reached the “compare an animal to a human” part of the discussion. Time to shut it down

Why don’t you also ask “how would you like to live naked out in the elements in a cage on campus”?
