re: What’s your opinion on the called intentional hit by pitch

I don’t know the rule but as a commonsense spectator I would hope they’d make the rule relevant to a called strike vs a pitch a foot outside the strike zone on ball 4.

The rule should be, if it’s an obvious ball pitch anyway, the player should be rewarded the base regardless

It’s my understanding that hitters don’t have to get out of the way of the ball. They just can’t lean into a pitch. The ball was inside and Dickenson just turned his body away. It was a total BS call !

Seems as if you get hit in front elbow, it's now considered an automatic out. Good pitchers will start taking advantage of this.

The one angle clearly showed him lowering his elbow and drawing inward. Textbook reaction for an incoming. Sorry call.

Was probably instinctual. He wears that protection and wears one any time he can

how can you call a pitch in the batters box on ball four “intentional” from a batter who didn’t even extend his body out over the plate in any way? it makes no fricking sense. and to award the pitcher a strike? why?
the rule should only apply when a batter reaches a body part into the strike zone
Agree.
Hits the batter inside the box - HBP
Outside the box - Ball
Over the plate - Strike

No way you can determine the “hitters intentions” on a play like that. The ball was in the batters box and it’s a reaction not a movement. Absurd to think you can know what he is thinking.
Was it a cutter, fastball, sinker? No possible way to 100% determine the intent.

Horrible decision by Dick . Not knowing situation is unacceptable. Mental error that could’ve changed the outcome

CJJ said it was the right call. I’ll just go with that
No he didn’t. Way to just make something up.

I hate the rule, if you get hit no matter if you lean in you should be on first base
Posted on 6/21/25 at 10:05 pm to Meatball
It’s a subjective rule that I think needs to be there, but when the hit by pitch would be ball 4, it shouldn’t be enforceable. You shouldn’t be able to challenge and call a batter out when the pitch would have awarded him the base either way. That’s the dumbest part of the rule.

Coastal has been getting by with this all year. Kind of ironic them calling for a review.

B.S. situation.
Probably want your batter to stand still and take ball 4 in that place.

Why does it seem like these obscure calls and moments always happen during cws moments on the biggest stage
