1st - Beloso

2nd - I think Doughty has more upside. Dugas hasn't looked great at the plate, he has struck out a ton so far.

3rd - Mathis

SS - Hughes bat just isn't enough for him to see any innings. Cranford has looked good in the field, but looks like it will take some time for him to come around at the plate. I wouldn't mind seeing Mathis play a few games here and there at SS to get another bat in the line up.

Catcher - Millazo has looked fantastic, i hope he can hold down the catcher spot. I'm sure Garza will still get some spot starts to give Millazo some rest.

LF - I think Bianco will come around, he is striking out a bunch. Not sure we have anyone behind Bianco that is ready to play.

CF - I like Hampton a lot, but you can tell he is extremely raw. I think he will get better with more innings.

RF - Cabrera

It will be really interesting to see how this line up shakes out moving forward. I think you only have a few positions that are solidified (1st, 3rd, RF, C). Imo, 2nd, SS, LF, and CF are all still open positions. No one has really taken these spots and ran with them.

It was nice to see the bats put up some runs today. If we can find a way to put up 4-5 runs a game, we will have a shot to beat anyone. Our pitching staff is going to be great this season.

Is that confirmed or are you speculating?

Paul’s going to have to figure out a way on how to keep Doughty in the lineup. We need his bat in the lineup but his defense puts us at risk. The biggest things for Paul are going to be finding a LF, a consistent CF (unless Paul’s just gonna go with the matchup to determine who plays CF that day), and a way to have Doughty, Millazo, and Garza all in the lineup every game

Ronnie and Buzzy were talking about this on radio yesterday and saying that no one looks to be the vocal leader just yet. Bianco and Beloso seem to have a little fire to them. Maybe one of those guys can fit that role or maybe one of the young guys does it as the season progresses.

I believe Doughty has a higher upside but his batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS are all lower than Gavin Dugas' stats.

The only offensive stat where Doughty is much better than Dugas is strike outs. Doughty has struck out only 1 time and Dugas has struck out 9 times.

Dugas is batting better than Doughty though neither is doing well at the plate. SS and 2nd are not sorted out now. Our OF is good but not great like the past 4-5 years. Catcher is in great shape. Starting pitching is great as well.

IMO, our biggest problem is sorting out SS/2nd and our bottom order batting is second biggest problem.

Yup no way around it

He’s one of the few players that have consistently squared up balls

Dugas lack of contact should put him on the bench but hey that’s PM for you

Im not speculating, they said it on the postgame show, so we are going to have to find another 2nd base option in the meantime.

I think mathis needs to stay at 3rd, id probably put doughty back at 2nd while dugas heals, and maybe he finds his glove in the meantime, hughes at short, and bianco in left

I think this is our highest upside lineup. For it to work though Mathis needs to work on his defense and Dugas needs to get it figured out at the plate. Luckily there's plenty of time for those two things to happen

Major problem I see right now is mainly SS, 2nd, and catcher. Millazo looks like a beast you have to play in SEC for his defense. I don't know about his bat. Garza is obviously a decent bat but he's not going to be better with his glove.

You have to start Millazo on weekends.

Doughty is a liability on defense and SS is already an issue at the heart of the infield. Don't know about this. You gotta push Garza to DH due to Millazo but Doughty you might want his bat. Dugas has been striking out too much but has a better glove and isn't a liability like Doughty. Dugas probably gets the spot here and you hope he works his batting out as the season goes along. If you have elite defense and pitching you can win a lot of games. Can't have a defense that's soft as tissue out there with tons of errors.

SS - don't really know how to deal with this. Anything but Hughes. He doesn't deserve a spot in this lineup and his glove is definitely not good enough to warrant a spot. If he had elite defense you could maybe allow him a spot but his glove is average while his batting is awful. Mathis probably has to play here to keep Hughes out of the lineup.

Milazzo has an on-base % of .409 and he has the third highest batting average on the team after Beloso and Mathis at .278.

Doughty is going to start hitting the gaps though. If you watch the games he's hitting the ball good enough they're just not falling in the gaps. You can't have a guy swinging the bat who can't even put the ball in play.

Milazzo I'm saying we don't know if he can consistently do it yet batting but he's the no brainer decision for SEC. He's too good defensively regardless to keep out of the lineup.

It's early, the stats are a little misleading. Doughty has looked much better at the plate, he has squared up a lot of balls. The fact that Dugas has struck out 9 times in 18 AB is worrisome. That's also against the likes of Southern, Nicholls, and EKU.

I agree, let Doughty grow up at 2nd. I'm done with Hughes, he has been in this program for 3 years and still looks absolutely lost at the plate. Give me Cranford until Arnold gets healthy. IMO, Hughes should only see the field in late game defensive situations.

Would Bianco be a better option defensively on the infield? Could you leave Cranford at SS, Mathis at 3rd, and slide Bianco to 2nd? Then have Doughty move to LF where he may be a better fit? I'm not sure how good a glove Bianco has on the infield.

C Milazzo
1B Beloso
2B wide open
SS wide open
3B Mathis
LF wide open. I’d look at Doughty and Gio there too
CF Hampton
RF Cabrera
DH Garza
