We'll see if he actually found his lost key to the safe deposit box where he put his super secret playbook.
I have actually figured him out and I think he is a frickin' genius. He was not trying to hide and save what we do for the important games later in the season last year but he was hiding what we do all year in order to surprise opposing defenses this year.

I'm not going to defend Crowton after '09. But neither am I going to discredit what we did in '07.
If I'm not mistaken we had three returning starters on OL in '07 (Black at LT, Herm at LG, and Helms at C). Will Arnold seldom saw the field. Hitt and Carnell were 1st yr starters on the right side. We also had three in '09. Point being, '07 had some experience but wasn't an especially senior laden team.
Agreed - and this is IMO a legitimate criticism of Crowton. He foregoes the simple but effective in favor of the sensational.

Im not gonna sit her and be impressed with predictability. I saw signs of it in 07, saw more in 08, and it was even worse in 09. Now with his progress why should that lead me to believe 2010 is gonna be much better?
LSU is considered a elite school in the nation, and we were ranked horribly on offense. That isnt acceptable, in most jobs if somebody was putting forth the effort he showed, they would be fired, yet Crowton is still a coach at LSU.
And I will also state if I see improvement from him I will take back what I've said about him. Though everything I've said so far has been deserved.

our offense toyed with Auburn and Alabama?
LSU beat Auburn 30-24
where LSU was trailing 17-7 at half, and won on a final play?
LSU beat Alabama 41-34
where LSU was trailing 20-17 at half, and game was ended by the defense not the offense really?
Here's your womework assignment; go see:
1) How many yards of O we had against AU in the 2nd half (and don't inclue LaFell's bobble and handoff to AU (aka interception))
2) How many total yds we had against Bama and
3) Find the last time Muschamp's D gave up that many yds in a half or Saban in a game.

hate to tell you, idc how many yards or whatever you have, the only thing that matters in the end is the score. The offense can drive down all they want, but if the defense prevents them from scoring, the defense won.
like from the 2003 first LSU vs UGA game. UGA had like double the yards LSU had, many people believed UGA dominated LSU, but LSU won 17-10.
and the next time you wanna give me a homework assignment, you should probably spell homework right

How can we not improve? We ranked 112th in the nation. I wanna see some major improvement. If we are lower than that after the first game, he should be fired immediatly. You can thank our wonderful AD Alleva for Crowton not being fired.

i dont mean improve in rankings, i mean improve in predictability, scheme, actually show hes doing his job. Im sure a lil kid pointing out a random play on a piece of paper would have more predictability then, run up the middle, run the option to short side of field, run a slant, etc.. at least the lil kid would keep you guessing

If shep is at tailback guess where the ball is going?

Crowton calling the plays itll be a run
Lil kid calling the plays, could be a pass, who knows

I think his spirit was broken when the Andrew Hatch thing backfired. LSU can keep throwing raises at him but it doesn't look like that's healing his wounds.
In all honesty his job was a lot easier with an experienced quarterback and O line that was motivated and capable of blocking. Inability on the field really limits play calling options, but last season was really an embarrassment. Even though JJ should know a lot more of the play book this year, and Shep provides a viable option, I think Crowton's wizardry may have stagnated. We'll see.

What would it take for Gary Crowton to regain his magic?
Simple: Keep Cro-Magnum Miles out of the loop!
But, Miles actually thinks he can provide input, on game day.
That is the problem AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT.
Crowton is being hijacked by a guy with no clue, Miles.

you're the one without the clue. Crowton has control of the offense. Miles may make a suggestion, but Crowton calls the plays. Miles has been a successful OC in the past

I think there is real hope. Though I was frustrated with the play calling through out the season and really angry after the Capitol One Bowl I've tried to look at all sides of it. I really don't think the man has forgotten how to coach. I just think he needs a more defined, focused offense.
I think this year we should see much more improvement. Jefferson at the helm knows what needs to be done. You have great talent and experience in the backfield and at the reciever position. I think the offense should be much more efficient and smooth this season.
Or at least...I hope.
agree, I think he is gonna take the collar off Jefferson...he's gonna have to if he wants to save his job...

a qb that can consistantly make plays and get the ball to playmakers.

quote:Judging from his history, it would take him getting a new job. Everyone of his first years in a new job produces offenses like LSU in '07. It's the subsequent years at the same place that are the problem. When he moves on, he will do the "savior to goat" trajectory again, just as he's done here and other stops.
