What would it take for Gary Crowton to regain his magic?

Simple: Keep Cro-Magnum Miles out of the loop!

But, Miles actually thinks he can provide input, on game day.

That is the problem AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT.

Crowton is being hijacked by a guy with no clue, Miles.
Talk about, "out of the loop."

The problem with Crowton's offense is that it is so complex, it requires a 5th year senior QB in order to be effective. Crowton puts too much on the shoulders of the QB, not taking into account the other skill positions (WR's, RB's) to make plays on their own. We have uber talent at almost every skill position, and those positions are held back by the QB position. The QB needs to be the person who delivers the ball to the playmakers, not one who is forced to make plays at the expense of the playmakers. (it's gravy if you have a QB who can also make plays, but as we have seen with many ch'ship teams, it is not a requirement).

my bad,it does look as if miles was an OC from 95 to 97 at OSU. still does not mean he did it well. he clearly could not take over from crowton this past year who had the 112th ranked offense in the country out of 120 teams which is pathetic. TULANE had a better offense than us! TUfrickINGLANE!

Very simple, improved o-line and qb play results in a great offense for gary crowton.

All this talk that he is to predictable, no imagination, therefore he sucks and can't coach. What was so imaginative about bama's offense? run ingram over left guard and tackle. pass a total of 10 times with the n.c. on the line.

We don't need sean peyton's play calling. We will do just fine with g.c. IF we have a good offensive line that can get push to run the ball and provide protection to pass the ball. the rest will take care of itself.

offense is about execution. not so much about play calling. a great offense is when the opposition knows what you're going to do but can't stop it. when the defense cheats or gambles to stop it, then you hit them with the big play. whether that is load the box to stop the run then hit them over the top or lighten the box to stop the pass then you hit them with the power run.

it's about players. g.c. had a great offense when he had a great o-line in 07 and a great qb. he had a good offense in 08 with a great o-line and inexperienced qb. he had a poor offense in 09 with a below average o-line and inexperienced qb. 10, he'll have an improved o-line and improved qb. therefore, good year and he all of sudden know's how to coach again.

Judging from his history, it would take him getting a new job. Everyone of his first years in a new job produces offenses like LSU in '07. It's the subsequent years at the same place that are the problem. When he moves on, he will do the "savior to goat" trajectory again, just as he's done here and other stops.

This.

People conveniently forget that a wide reciever screen got us in position to win the Ole Miss game. That slip screen isn't designed to go over the middle or to the outside it is a run to daylight thing.

agreed, however only an idiot would not have run a screen as ole miss was running jailhouse break blitz after jailhouse break blitz every damn play. crowton's play calling after that sucked. a deeppass with no checkdown when you are already in FG range? how about a short safe pass? how about a run? no, crowton calls a 4 verticals route and JJ gets sacked from the damn blind side. worst playcall this year.

He could quit calling plays. I know for a fact that our talent would be better discussing it in the huddle and picking their own plays. Let them decide who is going to be in that huddle.
They know who the studs are and who should stay in the game! They know whos not getting it done and what plays not to try OVER AND OVER AND OVER!

07 Magic? we were just as predictable then, just had a experienced qb... i mean really in the overtime vs Kentucky how many of yall expected scott up the middle in 4th down?

We got away with that a lot easier with the 2007 O-Line. Like Bama this season, when you can dominate up front, you can dictate the pace and flow of the game. You can be a little predictable with great talent and execution.

A QB that he doesnt have to pander too. O-Line would be helpful as well.

I wasnt quoting a play from the season, just chose a random play as a example. He's a gambler, not much thought in it, he chooses a play, hopes it works, if it works he's a genius, if it doesnt work we want him fired.

Flynn, Herman, Doucet,Hester... you get the idea. Current players are capable of making it happen IMO.

No they had better stats then us because they dont play in a real conference. There is a difference

They play against competition of equal talent, many times more, and they put up better stats thatn LSU.

It's all relavent and speaks volumes as tt our futility...it's alarming for those who think differently

Is the WAC a real conference?

La Tech was beating LSU at halftime.
