What would happen if we just removed the glass and barriers from Mikes enclosure?

Nice little off season thread for you spinning off from the bring him back to the stadium thread.

Would he even attempt to leave? Seems like he’s got a pretty good life, he’s probably more likely to wander back indoors annoyed at the small animals and stuff getting close to him than he is to wander out.

I think other than the occasional bird and squirrel mauling, he’d be pretty chill.

Campus would definitely be a lot scarier at night

Some Tulane students let him out in the 70s or 80s and apparently all he did was try to knock over some shrubberies

He got out of his enclosure in the early 80’s. I believe they found him in the track stadium.

Edit:

In 1981, pranksters cut the chain to the outer door and the lock to the inner cage door of the enclosure, releasing Mike. LSU police called Dr. Bivin around 1 a.m. to tell him that Mike was in the middle of North Stadium Drive. He wandered into the Bernie Moore Track Stadium, where Dr. Bivin shot him with a tranquilizer pistol (it took three shots to sedate him). He was safely returned to his enclosure.

I think we should just allow him to roam as he wishes

Those barriers aren’t for the retarded animal inside the cage. It’s for the animals outside the cage, who are much more retarded than the Tiger.

My first job out of school was to take over for a guy who was about to retire. This guy had gone to LSU too and he had a lot of good stories. One of them was that they used to put Mike in his trailer and go around town from place to place letting folks look at him. Then later they would come back with the empty trailer, acting all frantic, asking if anybody had seen a tiger on the loose.

By knock over shrubberies you mean pull a 3” sapling out the ground and carry it like a twig. He didn’t attack anyone because everyone was locked inside

I'm sure if you pretend to email some random zoo keeper about this you can get this thread to 20 pages.

some Tulane students kidnapped him from the Ye Olde College Inn in the 1940s or 50s. I heard this story many times because I was friends with one of the fraternity students involved (now deceased).

Didn’t one of Dale Brown’s associates let himself in the cage years ago? Dale had to go talk him out.

A Brazilian student got into the cage and Jose Vargas went in and talked him out.

Why don't you crawl into his habitat and then report back. He is just an oversized house cat.

Great question. Will add that to the list. Maybe find a way to just make it impossible to let him out of the stadium and let him roam in there. I know they clean his enclosure on Thursday mornings.
Start bringing him there and get him used to it.
Then add some noise.
See where it leads.
He would love the grass.
Put his ball out there on the field.
Maybe put a live animal he can chase?
