What/who would determine a "Super Conference" team?

With the news of USC and UCLA leaving for the BIG10, the speculation of a Super Conference (SC) ramps up.
My question is, what makes a SC team? Revenue potential? Where is the line?
What SC teams would come from the SEC? Bama, UGA, Florida, Texas, OU, Auburn, LSU, ... ???
Potentially, how many teams will ultimately make up the conference? 32? 64?
Lots to speculate about.

When does the NCAA die?
2024? 2025???
As long as the NCAA dies because of this, it’s a good thing.

OP, rather than jamming everyone into a 32 or 64 team conference, I think the conventional idea is to create 4 16-team superconferences. In that regard, the SEC got there first, and the B1G is following suit. In theory, the ACC and either Big12 or Pac## will become the next one or two to move that direction.
In terms of what makes a school worthy of that designation, I think it's an overall profile of athletic program success, academics, financials, alumni and fanbase, and of course marketability and value in terms of TV contracts and tie-ins. Basically, your bluebloods plus a good chunk of "new money."

Why keep the current conferences? Why not cherry-pick the 32 best teams and create new conferences?
Swap out Missouri for Oregon, etc.

How many teams should make it into the super conferences? I could see roughly 60ish but does that take away from wanting a bigger playoff?

Bro lets just expand the NFL to 64 teams

Vandy’s SEC membership is on life support now, IMO.

Why? Because college athletic have been so boring before now?

Can they be kicked out?

As to which teams make a 'super conference', that's mostly irrelevant. We're temporarily heading towards the the old pro football from the 60's; the NFL and the AFL. As we know, they didn't play each other for years, and despite finally getting a Super Bowl, the NFL eventually swallowed the AFL.
Right now, the SEC and Big 10 are becoming the NFL and AFL, and we're not quite sure who is who.
I think the SEC is doing better, because it's pretty close to having 2 concise groups that would make good, balanced 8 or 10 team conferences. The Big 10 hasn't made a good move since Penn State; they took Nebraska who might fit with Iowa, Rutgers fits with nobody, and Maryland doesn't either.
Missouri was sorta that way with the SEC, but sorta fit with Arkansas and A&M; and now Oklahoma and Texas make it a more confortable fit.

Media market plain and simple. I don't really agree with that opinion because most of Southern California couldn't give a shite about college football. But the Los Angeles metro area has over 18.5 million people so I guess they figure even though that area is not a college sports hot bed that they be able to draw enough in the make worth while.

Its ALL $
Now, and as broken as it is, NIL offers players to get a piece of the action that the adults have been getting for years (TV $, salaries, ticket/jersey sales, filling up them athletic dept budgets, etc).
College football died years ago. It is accelerating towards professional model faster than an asteroid to a dinosaur.

So it would be like the minor leagues in baseball. Triple A, Double A. Single A. Triple A would be more or less paid mercenaries and the lower tiers would be real student athletes.

because having a women's basketball team taking a midweek flight from Gainesville to Eugene is stupid. It's basically a 2-3 day trip. Or they leave super early in the morning and get back at like 2am and are then expected to be in class the next morning. Geographically regional conferences is still the best way to do things imo.

I think anything is possible at this point.

Conference membership Isnt the problem - it’s division membership. There are many programs that don’t belong in division 1-A. Division 1-A should only have like roughly 40-50 teams.

I agree the move seemed to be 4 16 team super conferences, however it seems everyone incorrectly assumed the PAC-12 would be one of them. It makes no sense to have USC/UCLA in the BIG Ten

If we’re poaching ACC teams I want Clemson FSU VA TECH and UNC. Doubt it happens. ND is more likely to just join the ACC.
