1999 was the least amount of fun I’ve ever had watching a football season. It was like watching a funeral week after week.

However, the Hal Hunter Arkansas game was a nice treat. But, ugh, 99’ sucked.

That 1999 Arkansas win is probably one of the most underrated wins in LSU history (since no one was there to watch it).

I was at that Liberty Bowl game. Man it was cold that night. A former player told me they were each given $500 and told to be in Memphis i think on the 27th. I heard guys were riding in the back of pickup trucks on the way up there from Baton Rouge. They were piling as many players as they could into vehicles to save on gas $$. We hardly practiced at all before the game. If it wasn't for a punt return for a TD by Norman Jefferson we would have been shutout by a mediocre Baylor team.

That 1999 Arkansas game was fun. I was 41 years old but somehow I wound up watching that game from the student section.

I really appreciate this thread because as a younger fan, I didn’t have to suffer through what y’all did.

bopper- Have you never heard of Bill Arnsbarger? Three seasons- never lost a regular season ROAD game. (Lost to Miami of Ohio in Tiger Stadium, though!)

I know-- I was there- home and away.

I’ve heard rumors about a walk-through practice held in the parking lot of the Liberty Bowl on Christmas Day (or eve). Players being on their own for Christmas dinner and resorting to 7-11s to find food.

Read Broadhead’s book. Some wanted Stovall gone really bad. Broad head was brought in to get rid of Stovall and modernize the AD. Brought in Arnsbrager , Pat Henry, DD and Skip. His only screw up was how he handled the Arnsbarger/Archer situation.

I remember going to the Ole Miss game in Jackson in 1992 and my dad making us stay till the last second of that 0-32 arse kicking. I have always been grateful that we did because kicking Ole Miss’s arse and winning championships is that much sweeter after those experiences.

The 80's as a whole was awful

7 of 10 seasons with a winning record. No LSU coach in the 80s has an overall losing record. You must be thinking of the 90s that had 7 of 10 seasons with losing records and the only coach I can find that has at least 4 seasons and a losing record at LSU.

I was right there with you during the years of unspeakable darkness. I was a student then; luckily my son is not having that same experience currently as a student. In fact, it's the complete opposite.

I was there from 88-94. I was at the Earthquake game and then 6 straight losing seasons. It was miserable.

One of my first dates with an absolute FOX in HS was the LSU vs MSU game in 1992.

We were in the end zone on the first row. Kinchen caught a long TD to start the game and finished the play right in front of us.

Fun night.

The rest of the season was all downhill after that game.

My first semester at LSU. Those games were incredibly fun. Lost all but one at home and it didn’t matter one bit. Bars were packed with opposing fans and we all partied like it was our job. Good times.
