I think you use him very sparingly going forward this year and you spend all offseason working on ball security and try to get more out of him next year. The guy is our most talented back by a mile, if he can learn to protect the ball there is no reason he can't be the feature guy next year.

Run him outside of the tackles. Quick pitches and sweeps. Throw to him on wheel routes and out of the backfield. He always fumbles inside the tackles where 2 or 3 players are trying to strip the ball. Cain is for the inside of tackles. He has to play, JW is banged up, AG is out and Davis cannot play.

THIS!

In most cases I would agree. But this has been a CONSTANT issue for him literally since his first fall camp. It seemed odd to many that a 5*, number two RB prospect in the country would fall to the bottom of the depth chart so quickly. The reason was because he couldn't hold on the ball in preseason scrimmages...something I heard directly from people at those scrimmages. 4 years later it's the same problem. At some point the potential reward doesn't outweigh the risk.

Like he has done for his entire LSU career he has flashed for a few great plays this season, but hasn't been a guy the coaches have shown a ton of trust in (both Goodwin and Williams were ahead of him). For an offense that can, at times, struggle to score, he doesn't give you enough good to override the very real risk of a devastating turnover. I'm not saying he shouldn't play at all. But it has to be Williams (if healthy) and Cain ahead of him from here on out. Williams has been far better than anyone could have reasonably hoped for and Cain, while not necessarily a home run threat, has been solid when given the opportunity.

As of today we have two healthy backs and he is one of them, so he will play a lot.

Emery will redeem himself and Kelly will give him that chance.

As a jr. in high school I fumbled during the first two-a-day practice, my coach called me over and proceeded to toss it about 40 yards and I had to run and bring it back to him. Did this every day at the begining of practice and after practice for 30 minutes.

First game, I take a handoff and what happens?

Well, I can tell you, it wasn't a fumble. I never fumbled again in high school. Never fumbled in college either, played defense. That lesson was seminal for me.

What unimportant games do we have left this year?

I think all four of our remaining games are big.

They certainly are. I was referring to his remaining career rather than just this season alone. I was under the impression that he still had a year of eligibility left but I'm not going to pretend to know those rules anymore.

This is cute.

Had he fumbled in the Bama game and we lost as a result, you all would be singing a different tune.

This is also cute...

If Jayden over throws Mason on the 2pt conversion..

If Jay ward doesn't recover that fumble and run it back against Auburn...

I mean, we can always do the If thing..

Dude would be a terrible linebacker.

As far as the fumbling, you are going to have to play him.

He is pressing way too much and trying to score every time he touches the ball. This leads to him flailing around with the ball to break tackles. Don't want him to give up on plays, but you have to know when it is right to go down.

He has historically had an issue with ball security, but is trying to do too much due to his lack of PT over the years. If he chooses no to listen to coaches who want him to succeed, then that'll be worse for him than his lack of production over the years. No one in the NFL wants an uncoachable player who has ball security issues.

Needs to stay healthy and eligible so he can go through the constant prep work to eliminate these mistakes. Availability has always been his problem but the guy is too talented to give up on. It’s just going to take a lot of work period.

I don't think we have a choice but to play him. He still has big play ability. Hammer ball security all week but he needs to play if we are going to beat UGA IMO
