If he's already highly thought of, he could be thinking that Catchers don't have the longest careers and wants to start it earlier.
Or if he finds a JUCO that will let him call his own games and has a couple guys on the roster with good velo.
That could answer a ton of questions for scouts.
Here's to hoping he's not reading this thread.

After doing a little digging, it appears HS players picked in rounds 11-30 are signed ~50% of the time.
That's higher than I would have imagined.
I wonder how many of those that signed have offers to play college ball. All/most of them?

I'd imagine every one of them had the chance to play somewhere.

If he’s worried about career longevity he should look into a position switch. His bat would make him valuable as a catcher, but it should be good enough to carry him at other positions.

I'm not sure. But there are some pretty progressive JUCOs out there from a development standpoint.
If I were in charge of a JUCO program, I'd run it like a minor league team with a primary focus on development, secondary focus on winning.
ETA: I think some of the Arizona JUCOs work like that.

Most of the scouting reports I’ve read on him say that he may outgrow the catchers position anyway. I’d imagine a corner IF position may be in his future at the next level.

The Boat is a well-known ignorant poster. Worse than Peej according to some.

Don’t they play with wood bats in some of the leagues out West?

I know Nevada does, that's why Harper went where he did. I think Arizona does too.

I guess the two most glaring concerns for 2019 LSU team would be C (no experience if Mathis or Willis) and LHP (but we do add McMurray).

I thought Aaron George was a RHP.
I know we have Kodros & Easton McMurray as lefties.

Mathis caught about 8 or so games in JUCO before he got hurt, and he's catching right now in the Northwoods League.
Garza caught a bunch in JUCO as well, in addition to playing 1B and DH to keep his bat in the line up.
The previous poster is correct, Aaron George is a righty.

Willis has a chance to start at C next year. It would be beyond stupid to go the JUCO route.
This reminds me of Doolittle last year. He wasn't convinced he would be the starting C so he bolted for JC in order to prepare for the draft this year. Hasn't worked out to good for him apparently

Talk about wasting a pick. It is the 34th round though.

Hess picked in the 34th round pick # 1012 to the Atlanta Braves

The thought of Garza, Watson, Willis, Cabrera, and Cabell in one lineup. :jizz:

Hess picked by Braves in the 34th round. Humbling if nothing else
