What kind of a jump can Harold Perkins make this offseason?

He did great being a spy and coming off the edge as a true freshman. Texas A&M ran at him and took him out the game. He was never a finished product at linebacker but he can be one of the best once he puts it all together. Teams will now plan against him and run at him. He lives in the ops building always trying to get better and how big of a jump do you think he makes to next season?

Needs to become more well rounded, not just a pass rusher

He barely played the nuances of the LB position. I'd say he can make a huge jump playing it more traditionally. Thing is, his instincts are so off the charts it really doesn't matter. He's going to make plays even being lost in coverage at times because of his natural instincts.

The biggest jump will likely be mental: pre-snap reads, more understanding in watching game film, staying in proper lanes on rushing plays. So, probably things that we may never see but will have a huge impact on the overall defense.

If he puts on another 10 pounds of muscle and continues to progress in the film room… we might have the next Derrick Thomas. Lofty expectations, but I’ve never seen a linebacker with his type of potential. His closing speed is unlike anything I have ever seen, he’s aggressive, but he’s incredibly cerebral as well. His instincts are very DW40 like already

He disappeared after Arkansas.... right after the fanbase put him on a pedestal. What’s up with that?

This. He’s a great player but he gets taken out in the run game. As a true freshman that’s almost expected but if he gets stronger and bigger he’s going to be unstoppable.

Learn the playbook and defense better to get on the field more, get better at pass coverage, get stronger and faster.

I remember Devin White being a big bowling ball his freshman year and got jacked after that.

This. LSU used him as a blitzing LB/DE but he needs to be more of the sideline to sideline chase runners down and pass defender against tight ends and running backs

The young man is still learning the game. He’ll become an inside lb this off-season. Then on passing downs they can get creative. Continue to grind with the nutrition and weights. The sky is the limit for him.

Bookmark this. He will take a step back this season. Someone bookmark and call me out if I’m wrong but we have seen it almost every year from true sophomore who had big freshmen seasons

not much if the coaches keep dropping him back in coverage, he needs to rush the passer
