LSU has pretty good depth, but I think we overestimated our bench before the season. Odo, Martin, Morgan, and Quarterman have not made the impact most fans expected. Our expectations for some of these guys may need to be adjusted IMO.

JOB got his arse handed to him last night, So I am afraid he is not all he is cracked up to be, last night showed little leadership or emotion from him. I agree with the announcers which stated to move mackey and mickey low.

benching Hickey was a poor move imo

they are laughably bad on defense

I think JJ needs to put his best five on the floor and go with them. If JOB isnt in his best five then sit him.

lack of fundamentals (this has been a problem for years btw) and our supposed best player not bringing the goods consistently has hurt this team lately. Johnny o'bryant hasn't been the same player since he got benched against rhode island.

I pegged them to win 23 games and that's likely not going to happen.

I do not get it, either. This is the deepest team I can remember with 10-11 guys able to be called upon at any given time.

This team has one of the most talented (on paper) front lines since 2005-2007.

The experience of Hickey, JOB III, and Stringer to go along with lettermen quality of Coleman and Morgan would make me think this is a dangerous team for any opponent.

After blowing out a UAB club that beat UNC, LSU seemed poised to make a run to get into the top 25.

Now, they look like an NIT at best and the heads continue to be scratched. Johnny O'Bryant, who figured to be getting double-doubles almost every game, is not showing up and has turned -- as of late -- into a 9 points and 5 rebounds type of player. Mickey is finally coming back down to earth. Stringer had a great game last night, but has been as inconsistent as anyone at LSU going back to Darryl Joe. Hickey still doesn't accept a scoring role and there's no excuse whatsoever for him to be a 50 percent FT shooter! I cannot remember the last time a point guard at LSU shot with such atrocity. Martin seems to be playing better, but I remember when McDonald's All-Americans would dominate right out of the gate. I have yet to see anything special from him, other than a good FT and 3 point shooter. Coleman, defensively, has been monstrous, but his offensive game is very sketchy and I am still unsure where his strength is shooting the ball. Morgan has not proven to be a top-notch outside shooter. Odo is clumsy and the typical big body from another continent who has not adapted to the American college game yet. What can he do besides fill up paint? Quarterman makes games have huge point swings with silly turnovers and he's about as much of an offensive threat as Xavier Whipple was -- yet he's 6 inches taller. The Son of Geert is another body, but he's serviceable at best. He cannot take the bucket to the hole with authority. Malone has to get in the weight room and LSU needs to set up offenses to screen him a 3 point shot against a much shorter guard.

I do not know if it's x's and o's, growing pains, or a bit of both, but the turnovers are ridiculous and the FT shooting is despicable. South Carolina would have beaten us had they had another 45 seconds left on the clock last Saturday. Last night is a reminder that road wins in the conference are huge. It would have been nice to come back to the PMAC at 2-1 in the league and with just 4 losses.

This team likely wins 10 SEC games at best. That may be enough, with a run in Atlanta, to get a low seed in the NCAA. The good thing is that Rhode Island is the only loss we have that's a hurt. The other 4 teams were either better or as good. Vandy is now a must win.

Find a way to get Hickey going offensively. Get him open. I remember his freshman year when he would bury 4 3's in a row and pull LSU back into games they'd ordinarily been out of. He's a weapon that is being misused. He needs to shoot 150 FT's everyday until he quits playing the game of basketball. Right now, this team is out of rhythm and looks like a subpar Trent Johnson team. O'Bryant has ben a huge disappointment and no NBA team is taking him in the first round until he proves to be what we expected him to.

Not to mention the Carrera kid from South Carolina outplayed him Saturday and he's only 6'5. Johnny seemed to be fine until Rhode Island. Ever since that game with the Rams, we have looked like a very mediocre team. Hard to believe that this is the same team who beat Butler, St. Joe's, Texas Tech on the road, and UAB by 23. It's been night and day. I thought the UAB win would se us start going on a run and become like the 2000 and 2006 teams that would be .500 SEC teams on the road by 30.

I did too. But unless they flip some sort of switch, that's not going to happen.

You kind of contradict this statement with your assesment of each player. Right now, this group is going about 8-9 deep with no reliable scorer. You are never sure who the points will come from. Stringer went off last night, but he could just as easily disappear for the next 3 games. Mickey was the only guy who showed up against UT, but OM's zone completely took him out of the game. Martin is starting to play better, but he hasn't shown that you can rely on him to give you the same performances night in and night out that he has in the last few games.

It's probably a combination of everything. However there doesn't appear to be much emphasis on getting the two biggest issues fixed (TOs and FT shooting) Because of these two issues, LSU is effectively having to overcome themselves as well as their opponents in each game. The fact that they have been close in every game outside of UT shows just how good they can be IMO. Another issue that HAS to be fixed is the horrible on-ball defense. I can't remember a team that picks up more non-shooting fouls 15-20 feet from the basket. Opponents are usually in the Bonus by the 10:00 mark. They let teams remain in the game at the line (see UMass and USC most notably)

Right now this group has no identity. Are they a team that's going to be perimeter oriented (they shot 26 3's last night) or a team that tries to dominate in the post? Every team from here on out is going to zone them, so they better figure out in a hurry how they are going to beat it. And no, relying on 25 footers to consistently fall is not the way to attack the zone.

I thought Johnny was going to establish a program of talent and scrappy nosed players. I don't believe it is going to happen this year.

At least Dale can't say we didn't give his boy a shot at coaching LSU.

At least we now can understand why game attendance is dismal. If only we could win the lottery and find an upcoming Billy Donovan or a new born Rick Pitino.

I may have missed a post on this but I was so upset at the end of regulation my blood pressure could not take it any more. I went to bed after going into OT after the missed OM FT and Henderson got the rebound to hit the 3 pointer to put us down by 7.
I know that CJJ decided not to call the timeout with 30 or more seconds in regulation "but" what major college winning coach does that. Sure we got a shot at winning the game but why not take it insides with a "possibility" for a offensive put back.
We've piled on JOB but what happened to the improved passing he showed late last year? Once he gets double teamed it's turnover city and he just can't find the open man. We now have two big guys other than him for the first time since he's been here and he just make the right decision.

LSU basketball looks like my 3rd hour PE class in HS. A bunch of 1 on 1, no ball movement, run and gun dudes that look like they never played organized ball.

It would be nice to see a few screens set.
Job playing so poorly is the real head scratcher. I dont care about nba stuff, this kid was all sec for good reason last year. Of late he is barely a starter on a mediocre team.

It is critical for hickey and job to play well.
Stringer is always going to be a lil streaky.
Coleman is a good proven vet, but i wish he wouldnt fall in love with 3's.
Martin seems to be coming around, but needs time.
Morgan is very avg.
TQ is playin like a freshman.
Mickey is good and will get better, but needs to get nastier.

I think this team is going to get it together and when they do look out.

They're sloppy. The talent is there, but they make tons of mistakes. Street-ball will win some games, but not an SEC title.

This team has regressed since the umass game.

Without question. And Hickey and JOB3 in particular have regressed badly.

We go nowhere without them at the very least not playing as well as they did last year.

Why is this happening? I can't tell you.

Maybe we expected more than we should have. But I also think even if you concede that we still have underachieved the last 5 games, and in those games in particular I think you can honestly say we have not been coached up.

Now there are still 15 games left. Let's see if there is any fight in this team.
