They looked good against what was thought to be good competetion in some early games.

I've been to a couple games this season...and in both games, a win and a loss, I saw poor rebounding on both ends, poor defense overall and poor free throw shooting. That's a bad recipe against even average teams much less quality opponents.

They have no offensive rhythm at the moment.

Last night I thought we rebounded well, and played fairly well on defense.

Free throws, turnovers, and alleged foul trouble lost the game last night. Two fouls should not banish your point guard to the bench for 13 minutes when the backups are turning the ball over constantly. If the backups were holding their own, fine. But the backups blew the lead and instead of LSU having a fair sized lead at halftime, we were losing by 3.

Free throws are the worst I've ever seen with a major D1 program.

Its absurd.

Add that to poor off-ball movement and that is a recipe for losing.

I think there is a lot more going on with this team than we know. Calling players' meeting is not a good sign. Benching JOB for his poor play is not a good sign. Team chemistry is critical in basketball and we don't have much of it.

This team has regressed since the umass game.

Our zone offense in overtime was pretty putrid. I am fine with the design of the 3 out 2 in set with the post players working block to elbow.

The problem is that we only passed it around the perimeter and never looked inside. We never drove any gaps or attacked the short corner area to flatten out the zone.

In all of overtime we passed it to the elbow once to Martin which was quickly passed out to Hickey for a three.

Our zone offensive design is fine, but we don't put enough of an emphasis on getting it down low, driving gaps and attacking the corner/short corner area. Instead, we are trying to throw cross court skip passes to a 5'10" guard.

I wasn't able to watch the entire game, but this is what I saw late in the game against a zone defense.

The team has rarely shown any continuity all season. Not really any fluidity, flow. They do seem to play better at a faster pace, yet they tend to play out of control at times.

When JJ became HC, I never dreamed one of his teams would be so slow, poor defensively, not block out on rebounding, play lazy....all of which the opposite... defined his playing career at LSU.

Someone said NCAA tourney...not a chance.

What a disappointment.

It's a shame I really thought JJ would turn it around and it looked like he had with this year's incoming freshmen. I was starting to get into LSU basketball again.

Have tried to watch the LSU TV games with no success. So glad I did not buy tickets to see them in person.

This is, unfortunately, probably true. Chemistry affects a team a lot more in basketball than most people realize. You can put a lot of great parts out on the court but if they don't mesh, you still will lose a lot that you should win.

Other factors are pretty obvious. Lack of leadership. No player has taken charge of the team the way we need. Coleman and Stringer have tried but neither is very outgoing or forceful. Hickey should be the natural leader but is very introverted and quiet.

Poor free throw shooting. A lot of fellow ranters say this is on the coach. Bull! I am sure they have all gotten critiques of their form and get to shoot lots of them in practice. In most cases it is just mental. In others may be they don't shoot enough of them in the offseason.

Turnovers are the one that drives me up the wall. At times we throw some of the laziest, most carless passes immaginable. The whole team has been guilty of this. Why I do not know? Veteran players should know better and freshmen should get their ears reemed until they know also.

JOB for all of his great ability has always been guilty of shuffling his feet. He should probably be called for traveling even more than he does.

Defense is not good. The reason we get in foul trouble is because we do foul. We overplay way too much and then foul when they go by us. The guards lose their man way too often and let themselves get rubbed off on screens.

Offense comes to a standstill when they throw a tight zone at us. Our big guys were toatally taken out of the game by Ole Miss's zone. Players are afraid to take open three's because we shoot them so inconsistently. Hickey for some unknown reason just casually dribbles around at half court until the shot clock gets down to 10 and then we take way too long to get off a shot and throw up a desperation heave. This is coaching and CJJ has not done a very good job in running plays. He called a brilliant back door cut and dunk by Martin but that is the only one I can remember. When Quarterman self destructed he should have put Hickey back in even with two fouls.

I disagree. Johnny's handling of substitutions is suspect, but this team doesn't run the offense well. Jones' offense allows players some freedom, and we have some creative ways to feed the post. Also, I don't think we see a lot of plays for our guards because they're so undersized. Offensively, guys need to pick up the tempo in the half-court. No more jogging to their spots. We need to come off screens tight, use ball fakes, and make the defense work. We give the defense too much time to identify our offensive design IMO.

Outstanding athleticism.

Yet less athletic, but more disciplined, fundamentally sound teams will run them out of the gym almost every time.

Boy I didn't see those creative ways of feeding the post last night. We need to be much more aggressive attacking the zone.

The few times we did get it into JOB he waits way too long to make his move. I think he should just go for it right away. He will make more baskets and get fouled far more times than the double team will strip the ball. ATTACK damn it!

Jones is going to have a lot harder time recruiting this year. The excitement he brought last year is fading fast...

Neither did I. We really didn't play the ball into the lanes of the Ole Miss zone. I thought it was good coaching by Kennedy to use the zone against us for a number of reasons. It was easier for them to double O'Bryant out of their zone. His cross-court pass from the corner is unacceptable for an upperclassman (and NBA prospect).

Couldn't agree more. He had some good positioning last night, but he took too long to make his decision (Gotta love the power dribble). O'Bryant and Martin need to think less, and just play.

JOB needs to be benched teams have figured out all you have to do is trap him because he has zero decision making ability. Shane Hammick should see more minutes, he is long and actually hustles.
