Some good thoughts in your post tigbit.
I have season tix along with some family and friends. First got them in 96. Would drive over Saturday AM, tailgate all day with family and friends, and then go to the see the band play pregame!
That "experience" was not only worth the cost of the ticket, but the fact that I'd get up at 4 am Saturday morning to leave Mobile, alabama and drive to BR, and usually get back home at 2-4 am Sunday morning after driving back.
Yes, even thought day game trips were "easier", in wanted those night games.
When game time came, it didn't matter who the Tigers were playing I came to cheer them on. Stayed the whole game.
Not only did we make all the home games, but we traveled to 3-4 away games per year. Living in Alabama, going to the Alabama and Auburn games were always the two biggest.
There were times during this period when money was tight for me, but I always found a way to make it. I wound up employed at a job that would sometimes conflict with going to the games, but i (with only 2 exceptions) always made it.
Then, "the experience" slowly began to change. Couldn't park at the old tailgating sights any more, and alternatives were either paid or further away. There were more and more "incidents" at the games with drunk and obknoxius fans. There were beach balls, singing happy birthday to the lottery, dealing with the parades of "Abercrombie and Fitch children" who wanted to walk around like they were at a high school game.
The ticket price increases were ok to absorb at first, but gradually got worse and then the "tradition fund" kicked in.
And then one day, ole Skip was quoted in the advocate regarding "better (more giving) fans".
That's the EXACT phrase. Suddenly the fact that for over 30-plus years (starting before i was born) my family followed the Tigers to places like Madison and South Bend in the days when it was "get in the car and drive north till we get there". later there were more trips to south bend, Los Angeles, Blacksburg and parts in between.
Suddenly, however, Johhny Slick that showed up last week with a fistful of sweaty $100s because he caught the second half of the SUgar Bowl on TV and thinks football will be good entertainment for him and his clients and business associates....
Well, he is a better fan. And he's getting Tickets to the Alabama and Auburn games....and deciding that maybe he can't spend the time to go, but hey this works out great because he can put the tickets on eBay and "make a profit" :). And then at some point making the profit is more advantageous that going to the games at all since his whole involvement was for business anyway.
When push came to shove, LSU valued too many people's "dollars" over my "loyalty and support".
Yeah, I know, make your "well we gotta pay if we want...." I get it.
I just can't justify the "costs" anymore. It's not simply the monetary cost, thought its hard to justiy when I'm paying more for being a part of something that isn't as enjoyable....not from an "entertainment" standpoint either.
When I say costs as well, I also consider the time, effort and dedication on three entire days to seeing an LSU football game.
Maybe this isn't just LSU and is more of a reflection of CFB in general.
I'm still as fanatical about LSU. Rarely, if ever, can be seen without some representation of LSU on my person. When I do laundry it's "whites, darks and purples". My car tag identifies me as an LSU fan 247365 here in the state of Alabama. I still do plan my fall Saturdays around LSU football, but now it is watching the game on TV with my pop, grandfather, best friend, and the rest of the family. I'll make the trip to Dallas this year, but that's about it.
Yeah, I know, TLDR. But you ask why i don't have my season tickets any more and that's it. They are in my name still, maybe one day I'll come back.

You know, I have followed LSU actively since 1967. That was essentially from high school to college to profession.
That remark you made is something I have been feeling for awhile. Maybe we are getting old and times are changing. However, it is good to know that I am not the only one who has been picking up this vibe.
I can only hope that someone in Joe A.'s gang is reading this.
I am sure there will always be someone out there who will pick up the tickets when we let them go. However, the fan base that was once loyal will be alienated. The so-called fan base coming in, won't be there when LSU needs them the most and given that most things do go in cycles, those times will eventually return.

Dasaltytiger that's about the time my dad was at LSU, so I grew up learning the stories of that era.
The "better (more giving) fans" quote of Skip really was what confirmed the vibe.
Glad to know I'm not the only one either

A large number of the post had a common theme of being fed up with “cupcake” opponents and the high price for tickets to these low interest games (when you consider TAF). Hopefully, with the playoff system coming, we can drastically reduce the number of these types of games, still make it to the post-season, and win out from there. The fact that for several games this past year, you could not give your tickets away should tell us that the Season ticket holders paid way too much for them.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but you couldn't be more wrong.
The last two seasons have proven that a weak schedule is the key to a NC. This will not change once the playoff starts. Well, at least not for some teams.
LSU playing a tougher schedule only hurts one team: LSU. See what playing a tougher schedule has gotten LSU since 2008: NOTHING.
The playoff is only going to benefit more of the same darlings the BCS has benefitted the past few years. At the end of the season, if LSU is 11-1 tied with Bama, Florida, Michigan, ND, USC, Texas, or Ohio State with the same record, but LSU has the "better wins" won't matter anymore. One of the darlings will get it.
That's the way CFB always has been and always will be.
Save your $$$, stay home, and watch it on TV. If you like the crowds and overpriced tickets, parking and food, to each his own.

Not only does this stupidity make you sound like a paranoid loon, its also been proven false (2003 and 2007). When there is a massive tie for 1 spot, SOS will be the deciding factor, whether you like it or not. I agree that name brand helped Bama in 2011 vs Ok State. They also lost earlier in the year than OSU that year and earlier than Oregon, KSU, et al last year and that has long been a factor.

Yeah, that has been the feeling I have had and there are others who would attest to this as well. I know times change. However, for many of us who were there during the hard times, it does feel like we are being slowly cast out with the sodomites.

EZE Tiger Fan, I am simply saying that whether you play an easy schedule or a hard schedule, it will not make much difference since being ranked 8 th or 1st, if you win out, you are NCs. If you can't make it to the top 8, because you have a hard schedule, then you don't deserve to be in the playoffs. So, may as well play good teams with lots of interest during the regular season.
