What in the world was that defensive effort and gameplan?

Losing to Bama in coleman is one thing- they have a great team and it’s always tough to win on the road. We were 15 point underdogs for a reason

But to walk in their building and show minimal effort on the defensive glass?

To let them shoot 3 after 3 with a halfhearted closeout?

Going under screens and letting the best shooter in the conference walk into 3’s?

Inexcusable.

To hold them under 150. It worked.

There’s literally nothing to point to as a positive under McMahon. You had some fans praising his antiquated style inaccurately as “fundamental” when really it’s just mid major basketball.

We had effort on the glass but Miller and Hill are just very very bad at rebounding and boxing out.

The fact that Hill is still starting is a prime example that McMahon is in over his head and doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Hayes was still recovering, but got thrown into the game anyway. Hopefully he takes back the starting job soon.

We also need to get away from the 3 guard lineup.

Yeah, but those shouldn't be the guys you're depending on for rebounds. KJ and Fountain are both 6'10. They had a combined 3 rebounds. Miller had more rebounds than KJ and Fountain combined. That's atrocious.

We’ve seen enough to know he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s not trying to lose and he’s not thinking this year is a free year to fail, coaches don’t think that way. Even when Hayes starts he’s out of position so that Hill can be out there and like you said he refuses to go with bigger wings even though it’s mandatory in this league. There are other rotational issues but the main point is he’s not making adjustments even after these 3 colossal failures and that points to him being way out of his league.

He played a traditional lineup at Murray State and started off the season with one. He only changed it when he put Hayes into the lineup, and I am not too sure if Mwani's injury led to that or if it has simply kept him out of late.

It has been a bad 3 game stretch, before which they beat Arkansas and took Kentucky to the wire. They can turn things around against the bottom half of the SEC, but if you didn't think that building a team from scratch was going to be tough, I don't know what to tell you. We still have a tough 3 games ahead of us. Luckily the back half of the conference schedule is much much easier.

You must have been watching a different game. This team has been awful on the glass all season. And it’s not just because of a failure to box out. The absolute first trait you have to have to be a good rebounding team is desire. It’s a mindset. When the ball comes of the rim it is my ball and no one else’s. Watch Houston. They don’t have a ton of size. But when there is a loose ball every one the floor for them is fighting one another to get it. That’s because Kelvin Sampson DEMANDS toughness. You don’t want to fight, you don’t play, PERIOD!

This team is incredibly passive. The ONLY two guys with an actual desire to rebound are Fountain and Hannibal. The rest want to avoid contact at all cost. You have a guy like Reed who wants nothing to do with contact. He just wants to loaf like it’s an AAU game. The guards (except for Hannibal) don’t help at all.

And the worst part is passive McMahon is ok with it. How do I know that? Because if he wasn’t you’d see 5 guys attack the rebound on every play. Instead, you see 4 guys bailing immediately with the hope that either Fountain or Hannibal might get a rebound

Not making excuses but while watching this game I was reminded of the January 2021 L at Gumps 105-75

This one was worse but this bama team is better and we literally had no players a few months ago.
