Bye week discussion.

Obviously tons has changed with the stadium, Mike's habitat, coaches etc over the years. What are some older memories you have that are now no longer available.

I remember tailgaiting in the big grass lot in front of the naditorium, next to the tennis courts. Used to be packed as hell before games. The reserved parking started to take over and we lost that spot, and moved to on the side of the naditorium. Few years later that was converted to a paid lot too. This was probably late 90's early 2000's.

Just interested to hear other stories that maybe date back further. I started going to games in the late 80's but don't remember much until the mid 90's because I was too young.

I stopped going and just watch on TV while listening to commentary on the radio.

It's too damn expensive and inconvenient to attend a game in tiger stadium. I had 4 season tickets for 20 years and gave them up after the Dinardo years.

"What comes of out of a Chinaman's arse? RICE RICE RICE!"

You're welcome...

FWIW, I was in that grass lot as well for a decade before it went reserved.

Back in the 80's it wasn't such an all day event. I distinctly remember rolling up to what were grass lots across from the old Alex Box some time after lunch and being able to find parking spots.

My first game in Tiger Stadium was in 1968 long before cell phones and cable TV. To me Tiger Stadium was this mythical palace where your football legends roamed. It was a time, when more times than not, you listened to the games on either KWKH or WWL and used your imagination to see what John Ferguson was describing on the field. You might get one game a year televised if you were lucky. It left something to the imagination.
Now, my perspective has totally changed. All games are televised, cell phones run rampant and TV commercials lengthen games by an hour and a half. The whole game day experience is commercialized and there is no longer that close knit connection between the team and its fans.
I've had season tickets since 2003 and haven't been to a home game in two years. I have lost much of my passion, but to be honest with you, since Coach O has taken over my fire is coming back. A win over Bama and I may take my place in the stadium again.

I started going to games in 1966...

So there is not enough time or space to get into all that...

In the 80s, you used to be able to stand on N. Stadium Drive right outside the stadium waiting for the players to arrive by bus right at the curb. The crowds were small enough that only a handful of EBR deputies were needed and people just backed out of the way to let the players walk to the locker room door.

You could also do the same for the band. The police motorcycles would come down the hill about 5 minutes before and get the crowd to start moving off the street toward the curb to allow the band to pass - no barricades at all. You could stand on the edge of the street until the EBR deputies moved you to the curb.

As a kid, kicking field goals and playing football on the old turf infield of Bernie Moore track stadium was fun.

Growing up and going to games in the 90's my family used to get to campus <1 hr before kickoff and park in the band practice field off Highland and Aster.

Now, if you arrive that late you have to park in an abandoned lot or along the street and pay some entrepreneur $20 so he won't break into your car.

The Naty grass lots were nice and convenient and of course LSU screwed that up.

I used to have season tickets in 423 and went to every game between 1996-2006ish. It's just gotten to expensive and inconvienant to go to games and the TV experience while having friends over is more enjoyable while not burning an entire day.

I still go to one game a year just for the experience but that's sort of fading.

You could park on most grass lots back in 80's and 90's. Now most grass has been paved or barricaded off for games.

Edit: You could play football on the parade grounds with your buddies. Now tents (Greek, Fan, and vender) are everywhere and there are so many people on the parade grounds.

playing rice in the 80's (probably 87) and watching an old dude in front of our seats screaming his head off stirring a big pot of rice

doubt they would let you in the stadium with that these days....

First Bama game ticket was $18. Next week $116 plus the tradition fund. Parked at Lockett at 4:45 free parking.

Started going with the family in early 60s; sat in the upper south endzone. Most people around us had season tickets so you saw the same faces every week. There was a family (grandparents, parents and kids)sitting right behind us that drove in from Mississippi every game.Good people. Most of the adults had a flask or bottle.Went to games as a student for 7 years then had season tickets for 5 or 6 years.Got tired of fighting crowds, parking and high costs. So many things have changed in that time period.
I do remember John Ferguson on the radio:"There's a handoff to the fullback...he dances gingerly up the middle for 2 yards" I never could visualize what dancing gingerly meant.

One thing lost was the Tiger bait chant when the opposing team ran onto the field.
For years now boos rain down like in every other stadium.
102,000 chanting Tiger Bait would be awesome !

Tailgating is shite compared to 10 years ago.

Money grab for parking did that.

That shite rap song the play before kickoffs enough to make me stay at house.
Stadium club has been the lone positive change for my game experiences past 5-6 years.
Matter fact I don't go unless I have club seats.

The cheerleaders riding around the field on top of Mike's cage, then jumping off. The big block LSU letters in the end zones.

Some people would call it soft.
I'd call it smart.

Figured out more enjoyable way to watch.
