Let's face it - LSU hasn't had a confident offense since the Mett, OBJ, Landry, Hill days. It seems like offensive mediocrity has just become part of the LSU football culture.

How do these other schools put explosive offenses on the field with 2 and 3 star talent and our trademark continues to be 3 yards and a pile of dust.

Cam Cameron - bust
Greg Studrawa - whatever
Matt Canada - highest paid OC at the time of hire
and now Ensminger.

Yes, we won a Natty with Saban but I don't even remember our offense being that exciting even in the Saban/Jimbo days. Why despite all these different coaches does our offensive philosophy and offensive personality not change?!?!?

First, you need a O line that is three deep. Don't care what else you have, war is still win in the trenches. Need two more decent recruiting classes.

Jimbo’s O were real good. Good enough to get Jamarcus Russell paid.

Les miles basically took us from there to Brandon Harris. O’s slowly building it back. Getting QB talent is the first step.

The first thing that needs to happen is that Ensminger needs to retire and Orgeron gets a new OC that he trusts but who also isn’t afraid to get creative with the offense.

Shore up the O line and this offense is top tier.

I like the play calling but we are lacking execution from the o-line and receivers at this point. I think Brousette and Clyde have been pleasant surprises but both are not at the talent level we have had in the past. As our o-line, receivers and QB develop and gel we will continue to improve.

It would help if 5 out of the 7 teams we’ve played weren’t ranked in the top 30 defenses in the FBS. Plus, we have 2 more coming up.

1 Miami (FL) 7 436 1659 3.81 11 13 237.0
8 Mississippi St. 6 380 1738 4.57 7 7 289.7
13 Georgia 7 457 2174 4.76 13 13 310.6
16 Alabama 7 468 2205 4.71 13 13 315.0
21 Texas A&M 7 381 2263 5.94 18 19 323.3
- Florida 7 469 2263 4.83 12 13 323.3
29 Auburn 7 483 2337 4.84 9 10 333.9

We don’t need a prolific offense to win games. I do believe our offense is better than in years past based solely on being more balanced and Burrow’s ability to check us out of bad plays at the line. We need more consistency from the OL, though. I think we would see a more efficient offense if we had better OL play at times.

Who is doing this against competent SEC caliber defenses? Video game level offenses against good defenses are rare, if existent at all. Alabama may be the exception this year...or maybe they just haven't played a high-level defense. Guess we'll see in two weeks.

I like Ensminger's play calling, given what he's working with depth-wise.

Our scheme is fine, but look at some facts.

Out QB just arrived in the Summer. He's done great, but next year he should have it down.

Look at our TB. Brand new, both are scrappers; however, neither guy is in the mold of recent backs who were all NFL bound.

Look at the WR crew. They are really just coming around. We had no returning impact kids here. They will improve even more especially the two freshmen.

TE, we have one and it's known we'd like to play two. We are lacking here and need Pettigrew back and more help here.

I see the potential to be really good in time as kids improve and we recruit.

Dominating D, street fight O, grinding out and landing the occasional big play.

This O is, IMHO, the most trustworthy since 2007. Against UGA the LSU O was 4/4 on 4th down.

11:15 The Mad Hatter talks about Aranda and Orgeron really knowing their team and what they are capable of doing

I agree, this team is a year early. 2019 with almost everyone returning and the coaching staff remaining stable, look out! LSU should open the 2019 preseason #1 or #2

Spot on! QB is a gamer, and he can spin it downfield. WR's are waiting to make big plays. Get them the ball in space. RB's are solid, and compliment each other and our passing game well. It ALL starts up front with the OL.

O-line talent and QB talent are where things begin

This is the first time in a long time we haven't had a stud RB. We've got 2 pretty good ones but they aren't the caliber that LSU has been so fortunate to have in recent years.

Another thing that really hurts this offense is we don't have a true experienced deep threat on this team. Looks like they were trying to put Dillon in that role last night but we really need someone that can stretch the defense.

The offense is as competent this year as it needs to be assuming the D is still stellar. We've played against some serious defenses the last couple of weeks and still saw the offense move the ball effectively. The real issue with the offense is red zone touchdowns and the lack thereof. I'm okay with this against MSU, but there should've been one or two more TDs against UGA and that concerns me against Bama.

Cam Akers or Etiene would have made a difference this year.
