not quite but I have an appreciation for LSU sports history that isn’t limited to just “when I was there “
So what is it about the Tiger Stadium environment of that punt return in front of 68k people that justifies it yawning at the environment of that electric 2007 game in front of 93k people? Please be specific, being you have such a thorough appreciation of it.

I was a freshman in 1980. That was peak Tiger Stadium for me. Life induced me to move back home and finish elsewhere, but that season captured my heart forever.. I lived in West Stadium dorms on the 5th floor.

We did in 1964 also, but everybody's forgotten about that game, even other old-timers.
Beating Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium on Halloween night, with a two- point conversion nonetheless! was the best Tiger Stadium experience ever, until beating Ole Miss in 1972 with Jones to Davis.
That '64 game never gets talked about, even in old-timers lore. It was esp satisfying after the Ole Miss beatdown the year before

When LSU beat #1 ranked Florida 1997.
Craziest environment I’ve been in at Tiger Stadium

The game is USC-LSU.
The fans stayed after the game still cheering and Mac brought the team back out on the field.
May not be the greatest game in LSU history but is still the greatest monument in Tiger stadium history.
That was a great season to watch LSU football.
Now think about this LSU lost the game and the fans stayed and still cheered for the team. This is ESPN first game broadcast, you have 3 teams calling the game, USC, LSU and Espn.

For me it's the late 60's and 70's. No titles but what great times with family and friends. Seems the lower bowl was a little more compact and louder.

Early 2000s. Had a team rising with success but infrastructure was used to losing. Ez tailgating, night games and not a lot of commercial breaks.

I'll probably get downvoted, but the answer is the early 1990s. Wins were fewer back then, so the fans just went absolutely nuts when a rare good play did finally did occur.
Eh, in a way, I will agree that there was a certain fun about going to games that we knew we would lose. I was a student 91-94, so I never got a winning season as a student. If you tell younger people today that we had a 2-9 season in 1992, they practically don't believe you. I'm proud to say that I stayed until the very end of Florida pounding us 58-3 in 1993, the worst loss in LSU history.
But that's exactly why getting our revenge on Spurrier in 1997 was such a pivotal moment in our history, and why that game was completely insane. Spurrier was 11-1 against LSU in his career, but his 1997 loss was truly epic.

2012 Bama - The stadium itself felt like a living being / lsu fan singularity in this game. The coordinated cheers with the band and golden girls dancing. I was in the student section so it felt more alive but was the greatest atmosphere I’ve seen…..until it wasn’t.
I need a drink. Walked all the way home that night down dark Burbank Road.

I understand what you are asking and like every stadium, it peaked before massive TV deals and mega conferences.
That being said, Ole Miss game last year was as good as it’s ever been.

My dad says Sept 29, 1979 when USC came to town was Tiger Stadium at its all time best. He’s been going to games since 77 so I trust his input
I was there and there has never been a better game in that stadium and I hv gone to all the great games. Your dad is 100% right.
