What do UGA and Texas have in common that have made them so successful?

Neither of them have relied on the portal as much as LSU.

Dandy Don laying down the truth:

Georgia’s success isn’t built on transfers. Over the past four full recruiting classes (2021–2024), Georgia brought in just 19 transfers compared to LSU’s 41. During that span, Georgia never ranked below No. 3 in recruiting (per 247Sports), while LSU finished 12th, 7th, 5th, and 9th. In short, Georgia out-recruited LSU and relied far less on the transfer portal. Of course, Brian Kelly had to lean heavily on the portal early on to rebuild a depleted roster. And remember, Kirby Smart is in his 9th season at Georgia and has won two national championships since Kelly’s arrival at LSU. Success breeds success, and Georgia certainly has it going on. As for Texas, they’ve also recruited at an elite level, with nothing but top-five classes under Steve Sarkisian.

LSU has had more roster turnover than both of these two teams the past several years and Kelly will once again have to rely heavily on the transfer portal. This is not the blueprint for long-term success and it isn’t sustainable. We need 5-star HS recruits and an NIL donor that can pay to retain them for as long as possible.

Sorry but Kelly appears over his head coaching in the SEC.

Well whenever all of your commits are getting offered over a million $ it’s kinda of hard to build solely through high school. And other schools like Texas and UGA keep upping the offer until our commit flips to them so frick them.

Texas also has the easiest SEC Schedule of any SEC schedule I’ve seen in 10+ years and lost their 2 biggest games.

Texas has that over LSU

Both of those schools are better schools with better facilities and more money.

I am not here to defend Kelly but what I see is the LSU is a bit in over its head in the NIL era. I am not saying Kelly has been perfect or even that hes been good but there isn't much any coach can do if they can't match NIL offers dollar for dollar. No matter who the HC is, we are stuck bargain bin shopping in the portal until we get the NIL side figured out.

The issue is that kids aren't staying in the program long enough to develop the skills needed to play every Saturday. We have athletes leaving because they didn't get to see the field as freshmen. The only way to prevent kids from entering the transfer portal is to compensate them for sitting on the bench.

I guess we have to sue each other more.

Consistently signing a top class with multiple 5 stars is pretty clear

They also both have fast cars.
Can lead to issues for the UGA players

Yet LSU is still not in a position to do this as I'm sure many schools are not. You simply can't build out of high school recruiting alone when you can't keep a recruiting class together. Look at our 2023 class! Can't build out of HS recruiting when the 2023 class happens. Need to work the portal, no way around it.

Portal is the future. HS recruiting isn’t as important as it used to be.

Why has Kelly had to rely on the portal?

Pretty easy to see this was the only way for lsu to be competitive the last 3 years due to the state of the roster inherited

Georgie is also like prime Saban at Alabama. You can’t compare what they are doing to anyone

Even before NIL started, Georgia was spending twice as much as any other program in the nation on recruiting. We can compete with Texas and Georgia money.

Because of highly ranked recruiting classes that didn’t work out. He hasn’t really helped out with that yet, considering 50% of his 2023 class has already transferred out or is in the portal. And the majority of the ones that are still here haven’t really shown much.

You have pointed to the class of would be juniors this year that haven’t worked out as a reason for LSU’s shortcomings. That class of would be juniors next year is going to be just as bad.
