At points of this season. We could not tackle.

Refused to do it right.

do y'all not remember the game? We were winning at half with the only thing keeping us in the game was defense. When you have an inept offense, the defense can only keep you in it for so long.

I’m curious what did Miami’s offense do? I didn’t watch the game, but it was 3-3 in the fourth and they only scored one TD.

I am assuming they were able to run the ball and control a lot of clock? That definitely can help a defense out if you aren’t getting TDs. Lane should help with this.

I think it is fair to question what can be done considering A&M with Reed as QB absolutely tore LSU up on offense in back to back seasons when other teams didn’t seem to struggle quite as bad. Perhaps they did, but two season ago LSU could not stop the man.

I’m not even being negative. I believe they can figure it out. I believe Baker and the players will do much better. I really do.

What I saw from Miami, was the DL not over pursuing and keeping containment. Not having an OLB (Perkins) just crash in and over pursue and and Reed makes 1 cut and he he escapes.
I was surprised the A&M offense didnt do more moving the pocket and getting Reed in space. But TBH Reed is that great of a passer. So his off platform throws were not great.

The dline, the lbs wasn’t the ones tackling reed like that. They helped keep the rbs in check better than lsu but to give credit to their lbs like they was running around making plays on reed is hilarious unless you are putting Scott in that LB group.

In Baker’s defense, LSU was 15th in scoring defense this year yielding 18 points per game, while Miami was 6th at 14 points per game against. Both teams had pretty good scoring defenses this year, but LSU’s anemic offense offered very little time for the defense to catch its breath. Next year will tell the tale of how good Baker is if the offense improves as most expect.

EVERY team with a mobile QB ripped LSU. Who’s to blame? It’s a big problem going forward.

Multiple people have said this in this thread, but they keep ignoring the fact that Miami’s offense was even more anemic than LSU’s in the game yesterday. It’s not a worthy excuse. Something else is amiss.

Miami scored 3 points until the very last minute of the game.

Very low IQ framing. Which, of course, is typical of OP. Or just intellectually dishonest. Likely both.

Maybe he could learn that the "havoc" method isn't always appropriate.
Learn, adapt and evolve.
I am sure that Lane will give him a good "scouting" report.

I think the D deserves more credit than it receives.

As for the A&M game. The blowout in the second half was pure carnage but...included a 79 return for a TD and A&M drives of 33, 29, 50 and 56 yards. The defense wasn't put in a very good situations.

The defense was gased in the Ole Miss game because the Rebels were dropping 8 in coverage and we couldn't run so we had 7 "drives" of 5 plays or less.

The ugliest game was actually the Vandy game IMO. The 'Dores dominated TOP. We looked absolutely befuddled by Pavia who we contained the prior year.

LSU don’t have the talent on front 4 as Miami. Miami by a long mile better in trenches.

And Aggie’s offense was anemic, QB was off

Miami has better defensive players than LSU?

The LSU myopia continues...

Rueben Bain is better than any front-7 player that LSU has had in quite some time.

I'm going on general observations of LSU, didn't get to watch much of the A&M Miami game.

LSU this season seemed to have a good, competent secondary that covered the pass well.
They had a good defensive line that provided significant pressure on dropback QBs, and did a nice job gumming up the line to stop the running backs.
The linebackers did good while dealing with finishing off the running backs. They didn't do very well at all addressing the QB... you'd hope they would be able to come in and clean up a guy flushed by the line's rush. Instead, if the d line flushed someone, and he had ANY athletic ability, he would run wild on us. Only a couple exceptions, such as Perkins cleaning up Klubnik in the Clemson game.

That's the hole in this defense. We can stop the pocket passing game, we can stop the RB run. We can create heavy pressure on the ball, but a mobile guy (Reed, Chambliss, Pavia, *Milroe) feasts on that.
If we can get a return of classic fast "LSU" linebackers like we used to see in the Miles era (White, Beckwith, Barrow, Minter, Jones, Riley, Highsmith, etc), guys like that would close out the QB. The scheme becomes lethal, and the defense jumps from solid to top 5.

He plays too much man and doesn’t spy vs running QBs

For that to happen the Dline would have to be able generate pressure strictly front 4, Miami front 4 dominated, which allowed a guy like Scott to blitz off the edge untouched because if they pick him up the Dline was hitting Reed, also lsu plays more catch man with their lbs which they are playing basically trail in coverage so they have their backs to the qb. If LSU front 4 can get an actual pass rush and stay in their lanes and lsu plays more zone, I think we could possibly see a lot better results vs a running qb

Starts with re-evaluation of..."my defense doesn't depend on a spy" comment.

I think aTm’s hot streak ended. They didn’t play well compared to how they played during the season. Sometimes that happens.

Miami 2 DE will be 1st rd picks with Bain being probably top 5.
