It’s simple, you have to practice it, you have to put the pads on and tackle.

Maybe not put on the pads. Have them practice rugby tackling techniques without pads on. If you can do that safely without pads, then doing it with pads should be easy peasy.

The top defensive teams aren't scared to tackle, regardless of the rule changes.

I came just to see that gif. I just knew someone had posted it. I too was shocked it took the 2nd page.

I think 2023 and 2024 have been the worst tackling LSU defenses that I’ve seen in a really long time.

Ehh, the second tour from Bo Pelini was awful as well in all phases.

Place 2 cone approximately 10 feet apart. Two players lie down on their backs 30 feet from one another with helmets facing. One of them has the ball. Blow the whistle and both hop up on their feet. Player with ball has to run between the cones, the other player has to tackle him. If anybody "wussies" out of the drill, stays in the drill. Repeat for an hour each day until tackling improves.

My HS coach would literally stop practice and make the entire team do this if he didn't like how we were tackling. We were not a very good team but we could tackle.

BIG CAT DRILL

They don't focus on tackling in the BIG CAT DRILL, but they do show/develop toughness.

Just for fun, watch this BCD from 2012. Everyone's all-time favorite LB is third. But watch 57 right after. There were some beasts on that team. (But not everyone's favorite all-time LBer.)

hey man, Welter tackled people in 2013. got Manziel a few times even.

but then he tailed off in 2014 and gave up that long run to Dak and it was time to sit...

Honestly i dont think there is anything you can do. They practice tackling. You just have guys who don’t like to tackle and not good at it. They dont have the mindset. Cordale Flott was the first small sized DB i’ve ever seen take the field at LSU, and had heart like he was 6’2 200 when he was probably every bit of 150 (being generous). Our guys lack will and want and just want to get saved by the offense

Think this went by you.. we usually mean a decleating Tee off hit coming downhill.

How often are guys flagged and tossed for doing exactly this? We had a shot to win in the USCe game because an idiot put an extra shot than what was needed on Nuss. This is how football is now.

This doesn’t excuse bad tackling, because big hits aren’t necessary to make a form tackle. But you can bet your arse that defensive players are always thinking about how they hit so they don’t get tossed for targeting or flagged for roughness or late hits.

I would venture to say that tackling sucks in the game because they don’t tackle to the ground during fall camp. The thud style people do now at practices causes a shite load of missed tackles in the games.

I know they do it for injury reasons, but it makes for a shite product on the field.

Lots of this happening. Players taking terrible angles and running themselves out of plays. Burns avoiding tackles is infuriating.
