I don't know what to make of Hilton. We know he is capable of big plays, but he seems to always be going through some mental hurdle. Always looks like he's pouting from getting yelled at or just going through the motions at times.

I think Hilton, Brown and Thomas are phenomenal athletes, but are below average receivers from a fundamental standpoint. You’ll see plenty of big plays from that group this year, but none of them will give you any level of consistency. They are all pretty one dimensional.

I’m interested to see if Nic Anderson gets more involved as the year goes on. He’s maybe the only possession WR we have.

Nobody is talking about Thomas who had a pass, run, and catch. Looks versatile. Only thing holding the offense back is play calling.

BKs attire was hideous. Otherwise, that was domination on the road of a NC caliber team.

Idk man Parker looks the part… throwing blocks for the run game. That 3rd down catch while getting blasted. We have some dudes in the WR room. And if Hilton can’t figure it out then so be it.

The defense is solid. I’m a little nervous about not having a deep threat. That’s probably my biggest concern. Everything else was good enough to be really good this year.

We have deep threats, Clemson just played coverage that took that away. They gave us space in front of them and Nuss took advantage of it

Compliments to the D. We were aggressive and tackled well. Great to see. With Delane & others, DBU is back. I didn’t notice Pickett a ton. Did anyone else?

Nuss did well given the game plan. I thought Zavion Thomas had a big game, and so did Aaron Anderson.

Concerns, we didn’t air it out or hit a deep ball. Could be we were concerned about protecting Nuss for that long.

I wonder if Sloan will add a counter play with Durham watching how his 1st big run went. Also, I’d love to see us add the reverse with 0 the way FSU ran it yesterday. He could be electric.

The only defensive concern I can find is that the corners/safeties missed a couple TFL last night on the boundaries. But attack sense is spot on, and none of those went for big plays.

I think this game is the worst they play as a team. Eventually, they are going to gel. Too many dropped passes, shitty ball security. I don’t see anyone on our schedule that worries me. My biggest concern is Rat Poison.

Compliments:
Best defense we’ve had in over 10 years. DBs are elite, DL is extremely physical and hold their ground.

OL only allowed one sack from a defensive front full of NFL draft picks

Run game was good enough to get us down the field unlike last year

Concerns:

Play-calling decisions - Sloan has major limitations when it comes to scheming pass plays. Way too many slants and not enough downfield 10-20 yard throws

Ultra-conservative playcalling at the end of the game - arguably the biggest concern

Additional compliment: few penalties. Considering we had a new OL in a loud environment, first game etc, I’m surprised we didn’t get a bunch of offsides or false starts. Whole team seemed to have their head in the game

Deep threat is our strength. But they ran a 2 high, cover 4 all night to make sure we didn’t get a chance to use them…

2. Brian Kelly’s decision making could have cost them in another big week 1 matchup by once again leaving 3 points on the field. The lack of killer instinct to put the game away at the end needs to be fixed.

I was fine with the decision to go for it. The decision to throw a screen to Hilton rather than Anderson, Brown or Thomas was dumb.

Agree with your first point too. Hilton almost blew this game for us. His role should be very limited with the studs we have at receiver.

Hal Mumme said in his book that it’s more important who you call the play to target than the play. That close, seems like Green is a cheat code.

You are blind if you think the DL didn't do their job Saturday night
