What has not been spoken of yet is he has difficulty reading the crashing end Making the zone read much less effective than what it could be. He hands it off many times when he should have kept it and he kept it a couple of times he should’ve handed it off

Needs to process the field and pull the trigger. Not sure if this is one of these either you have it or you don’t traits

It’s got to be a challenging analysis because for example you can’t just say “look that guy was open” it could be the guy was open 10 yds from the LOS with defenders closing in while JD is looking at an open 20 yd run.

I’ve seen often here the tards will just point to an open receiver that wasn’t targeted without any context.

As soon as a good D-coordinator realizes he can’t throw the ball accurately downfield and puts 7 in the box to keep him from running while at the same time plays tight man to man, it’s over for JD.

He does not appear comfortable passing to me. He cannot see the field.

1 read throws. He has to learn to throw to a window and not a WR.. I hate seeing our WRs get frustrated because they cant get the ball.. thats not good for recruiting... we need to be 55-60% throwing offense with the skill position players we have in our state. being a mobile QB is great, but you HAVE to have a guy that can get the ball to your playmakers in space.

Most of the Taylor targets were Taylor’s fault or not being on the same page.

..its much better to have a statue in the pocket that can get lit up on blitzes or have to throw in ocverage to avoid sacks

Whos a statue? Howard? Nuss?

No! What's better is having a guy who has reads figured out pre snap and can progress to others if needed. Getting the ball out quicker and the OC being creative with screens, draws, etc is what helps alleviate pressure.
Let's just say Daniels leaves...then you start next year with a totally different skillset etc...start all over for 1 mediocre year and no passing game improvement.
Not totally passing on JD, he is athletic AF. I think the issue is with his running success, it becomes first option in his mind, and that hurts passing progress.
Not sure about Nuss, but Howard can run well....and in a qb type needed run...like Burrow

I stopped paying attention to the fan analysis of open WRs when someone posted a screen cap showing Daniels being forced out of the pocket by an unblocked defender and the poster wondering why he didn’t just choose that exact moment to make a pinpoint accurate throw to a receiver he wasn’t looking at.

With knowledge, the ore snap read should have him looking at the eight guy. Without knowing it, your comment proves the point.
Pre sbap reads and seeing blitz and using audible blocking is 95% if qb'ing

Damn...think!

but most good quarterbacks can anticipate whether a receiver will be open before they're actually open.
I hate to even say this at this point...but Brennan had pretty damn good anticipation

glad you brought this up. His decisions on reads are horrendous. Zone read could and should be a staple of this team

This statement is exactly what the better teams ( DC’s ) will do. They will condense the field where he likes to throw and that means more people closer to the LOS to not give up big run plays.

BK is bringing him along very well. Now we all know why Johnson and Brennan left, BK told the he didn't have an OL that could protect them, he wasn't lying.

Yeah, he's not comfortable. Not even close.
Sometimes he was comfortable. He still threw for over 200 yards. Most importantly, no picks.

I’m not complaining if he decides to run if he’s not comfortable. I think we can do just fine with this defense.

I’ll take Daniels overrunning sometimes vs:

Daniels throwing if he’s uncomfortable, Starting Nuss, Starting Howard.

If it’s the best we got, it’s the best we got. But I definitely hope he improves. I always want the guys to improve.
