re: What are all of these "adjustments" that should have been made?

Not many adjustments could have been made when:
Your catcher throws wild to first base.
Your SS boots a grounder.
You hit balls all over the place, but in the opposing gloves and in the infield.
You hit several blasts that would be HRs anywhere else.
Your pitcher throws strike three on the outside corner, but the dickhead umpire calls it a ball, and the next pitch is hit for a 2 run homer.
Your best hitters hit the ball with men on base, just not safely.
You leave 19 men on base.
Your pitchers do an outstanding job allowing just 6 runs in 2 games, the same number of runs you scored in 9th inning vs OU.

Not to the drastic point to where all of the sudden we can press a button and BOOM we get flat fastballs right down the pipe or BOOM bunt placed perfectly down the baselines.
Flat fastballs? the guy was throwing 88 up in the zone.
The only problem I had with either game was the hit and run with the on a 2-0 count.

I didn't see coaching adjustments were necessary as much as the team needed to tone it down a bit and get to fundamentals at the plate. It felt like guys were trying to pull every swing our of the park. Example, Bregs AB in the 7th? Yesterday with a runner on 1st and 3rd and no outs. Who got a hanging breaking ball on the outer half which he should have, and for most of the season would have, driven it to the right center field gap for a 2 RBI double. Instead he pulled it for a DP.
My point is that I think if this team would've managed a win vs UCLA, the rest of the tourney was ours because players would've relaxed. They were simply too wound up. It happens

I was in transit from work to home yesterday when I missed the 7th and 8th innings, but it seems like the issue is LSU has the bases loaded and someone thinks Ross (or whomever) needs to bunt. We're in a "whatif" here, but what would have happened had Coach had called for a bunt and it been popped up? To me, a bunt is far less percentage a success as in letting someone hit away. Had the bunt been successful, only one run MAY have scored (but none if the force at home was successful). A base hit would result in one or possibly two runs. A gapper would have sent three runs home, and of course, a grand slam would have pretty much iced it. If I were Coach, I'd go for the highest percentage, so I'd let them swing away. Small ball is just as much getting a single as making a successful bunt. We cannot play the "whatif" game and ever win, because we also could not predict if NC could have tied it in the top of the ninth or even gone ahead. Each play arranges a myriad of possibilities that ensue--anything after the play has a different set of realities that were not in existence in any picture until the event occurred. We lost--it's history--and in the past--and we don't live in a fantasy world, so let's go on and fight today's battles--the Tigers will be back next year.

For starters tell your hitters to lay off the high pitches and get the ball out the air.
After that, get Stevenson out the lineup and put Moore in RF move Laird over to CF.

It wasn't bases loaded with Ross up. It was runner on 1st, 0 outs. He lined out and didn't advance the runner. Runner ended up stranded at 3rd.
Hindsight...You can always second guess. LSU lost because they went cold. shite happens.

Yep. Winning the CWS is about getting hot at the right time. LSU cooled off after the SEC tourney. It's unfortunate, but baseball is a game of streaks.

Hey, thanks for the correction. I was so frustrated at that point that I didn't go back to review it. Seems like I also remember Ross getting a single earlier, so why not let him swing away?
However, didn't LSU load the bases a couple of times in the latter innings and still not get the runs home?

Not really an adjustment...that's a specific strategy.

Adjust lineup to move hot hitters up for more AB's.
Who? Be specific.
quote:
Sit slumping hitters when players on bench are hot (Tyler Moore)
Who? Be specific.
quote:
Challenge UNC catcher to throw us out on basepaths.
Who/when? Be specific.

The amount of runners LOB not only shows lack of hitting, which happens beyond anyone's control, but it also shows our lineup wasn't distributed properly to get the hitters up with runners on. Granted we only had about 2 guys getting consistent hits.
Specifics?

It wasn't their strategy. CPM said before the CWS started that they set up the pitching machine to throw belt high fast balls to try and get the guys to either lay off or to get on top of them.
It didn't translate to the game.
Yes I know. Which is why I think it is comical that people continue to say "Coach should have just told them to lay off the high pitches".

It was painfully obvious after Ibarras 2 bombs that were caught on the track that swinging at elevated pitches was not a good hitting strategy.
Do you really think that was the intended strategy? I mean, Mainieri even directly addressed that.

What do you lose by putting Moore in RF? Lets start there, and then see if the benefits outweigh the loss.

Holy shite.
You already went full retard in one thread and now you are going full retard in another.
You lose one of the best outfielders on the team. There is no way in hell that Tyler Moore would have caught that long fly ball in the gap against UNC yesterday.

Stevenson benched is one "adjustment" I would have liked to have seen. He was almost an automatic out.
His one hit in the CWS was more than Bregman, Rhymes, and Ibarra combined. I don't think he was the problem.

Make sure nobody is looking and you can shift your thighs slightly to the right or left while grabbing your crouch. Should be enough of an adjustment.

You are referring to Stevenson, and I agree. Kid can fly and is a great outfielder. Moore is not a bad athlete either though. Now lets look at the benefits. Tell me again how much Stevenson contributes at the plate? Do you really think his defense outweighs him being a liability at the plate? How many starters in the CWS had a BA as low as his?

And you have yet to refute my last post in that thread. Shocker.

There's a difference here. You don't take Bregman Rhymes or Ibarra out because it is obvious they are playing below their capable of playing, and could come out of it at any time. They have a chance at any given at bat to come through with a big hit and get hot.
Stevenson on the other hand didn't have much of a chance at the plate all season.
