Freshman in high school myself. I had tickets on the family plan for all the games that year except for notre dame. Butch Baum scheduled a pheasant hunting in Nebraska that weekend and took my father. I got to go on his ticket.
There were six gentlemen from baton rouge sitting in a bar that night in north Platte Nebraska screaming at the TV. And one lucky 15 year old sitting on the 20 yard line experiencing an unforgettable football game.

Whats up with the endzone painted ND?

Also I've noticed in old videos the shrubs around the field. Anyone know when those went in and how long they stayed?

I was a Boy Scout usher, troop 256. In those days access to the field (or anywhere in the stadium) wasn't too difficult, so my buddies and I walked to the ND sidelines and got several Irish cheerleaders to autograph our caps

Still my favourite game inTiger Stadium. You have to remember that in those days there weren't many "intersectional" games in college football and this was LSU's first at home. Even in 1971, southern teams didn't play these games due to segregation.
The pregame buildup for this game was phenomenal in Baton Rouge because we had lost a close game the year before in South Bend that we should have won.
Tiger Stadium was at it best that night.

I was living in Michigan and 11 years old... It was the night I became a lifelong LSU fan....

I was at that game too. I was a junior at LSU and lived on campus that year. That was a great game but during my time at LSU, we had many great games at home and away. Archie playing with a cast on his arm was a great game. LSU and OLE MISS were big rivals back then. I loved the game where we beat Ole Miss with one second left on the clock. Ole Miss claimed that time ran out and LSU added a second to the clock. TBH, most LSU fans thought that time ran out and we lost that game. With that second left on the clock, LSU kicked a field goal and won the game. The state of Miss. was so pissed that they erected signs on the borders of the two states that said you are leaving La. set your watches ahead by one second. Those were good times.

Wasn't Art Cantrelle supposed to be a badass fighter? Not saying he couldn't/wouldn't/didn't stomp mud holes on the reg, but I expected him to be a bit more fierce looking.

Thanks for posting this I. I just finished watching all the way thru for the first time. Shocked that we called a timeout with 12 seconds left leading 21-8 in order to score another TD. I guess there was no such thing as running up the score or rubbing it in back in those days.Cholly Mac definitely was not known for being outlandish by any means. But that was an awesome game by the defense and jones and Hamilton.

I was on my recruiting visit to LSU that night. Had the pregame meal with the team (steak, spaghetti, pancakes were the options), then watched an LSU hype video before the game.

Wild atmosphere. They ushered us into the tunnel near the end of the game so we wouldn't get trampled by the fans. The locker room was crazy after the game. Got to talk with Casanova, Mike Miley, Cantrelle in the locker room and at the the dorm.

Brad Davis was my host and roommate for the weekend. We went to all the fraternity parties. Talked at length with Bert Jones the next morning in the training room, went to breakfast with assistant coach Dave McCarty. Good times.
