People bitching about him potentially leaving in the midst of a run need to direct their anger at the NCAA. It’s their calendar schools have to operate under.

They have screwed the pooch so bad on NIL and transfer stuff schools always have to catch up.

OM and LSU are likely better off if he stays.

exactly. No way Kiffin would leave OM before their season ends. Cther coaches have done that - hell, I remember Sark staying at Alabama through the playoffs as OC when he had already agreed to take the Texas job.

But Kiffin isn't going anywhere, he'll stay at OM with a big fat raise.

So why is Ole Miss giving him ultimatum with a deadline prior to end of season? All this nonsense distraction should be after the playoffs are done and season over.

You can tell Wetzel that premier jobs in the SEC, i.e.LSU, UF, UGA, Gump don’t come open but every once in a while. If he passes on the opportunity now, next time one comes open, he may be looked at for it.

You sure about that?

Since Lane’s been at Ole Miss (2020-present):
2021 Florida
2021 LSU
2023 Alabama
2025 Florida
2025 LSU

One of the jobs you listed has come open every other year since he’s been there.

If you expand the list to include Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Texas A&M:
2020 Auburn
2020 Texas
2020 Tennessee
2021 Florida
2021 LSU
2021 Oklahoma
2022 Auburn
2023 Alabama
2023 Texas A&M
2025 Florida
2025 LSU
2025 Auburn

Can you think of a P5 HC who left for another P5 job, but still stayed with their team until the season ended? Because I can’t. Much less another P5 job in the same conference.

Big difference vs. a coordinator moving up or a G5 coach going up to a higher level.

Maybe it’s happened at some point but it’s certainly the exception rather than the rule.

Yr. In and y. Out of miss is not gunna be in the national championship hunt with the right coach LSU will. I think in the long run he should go to a school that can win it.

Exactly. An extended playoff with one less portal/signing day period. It helps that players who want to enter the portal get an extension but not for coaches who want to leave for another program. You're still in the same boat.

Not possible with the dates of both the early signing period and transfer portal opening. The new head coach needs to be in place for this and OM wouldn't want Kiffen recruiting for LSU or Florida the recruits he's targeting now for OM.

Its just a job....you do it to the best of your ability until your last day. Then you move on. He shouldn't quit and go to any other program until the Ole miss season is done.

Kiffin's "stock" at Ole Miss will never be more valuable than it is right now, IMO.

1. I do not believe that any coach, including Lane Kiffin, will win a NC at Ole Miss in the next 20 years.
2. If LK wants to win a NC, he best take the LSU job or the UF job in December this year.
3. It took coaching legends like Spurrier and Meyer to win a NC at UF. Miles and Orgeron won a NC at LSU. LSU is a better HC position than HC at UF.

Coordinators finishing possible national championship runs before they accept a promotion to be a head coach elsewhere is apples to oranges compared to a HC leaving for another HC job at a rival school.

Bo Pelini stayed on as LSU's DC through the 2007 BCS title game despite having already accepted the Nebraska HC job.

He'll always have remorse if he decides to go take another job -- Florida or LSU -- right on the verge of leading a likely 11-1 Rebels team into the College Football Playoff.

Ok. And if they lose their first playoff game he will always resent Ole Miss because he passed up opportunities only for them to shite the bed.

If schools didn't fire coaches so early in seasons, this wouldn't be as big of a problem. If the entire sport didn't screw itself with portal windows and early signing periods that go directly up against "playoff time", the coach early exit wouldn't be a problem.

Wish these cupcake sports "journalists" would attack the right places. Penn State was let off the hook for firing Franklin so early. It always seems like these big "something is wrong here" articles are centered on LSU when thereare multiple offenders... just like the Will Wade thing, hush hush on Duke ,Kansas, and North Carolina, but multiple national articles about dirty LSU.

frick these guys, specifically Forde & Wetzel. Cherry picking outrage.

I always thought it was a bad look for both Saban and Lane when he didnt coach the offense in that championship game. Saban is the guy that actually helped Lane find a head job at a group of 5 school because Lane was signed, sealed and delivered to be the OC for LSU under O and Saban damn sure didn’t want to have to face Lane with LSU talent and the only thing that would have stopped him was a head coach job so Saban had Jimmy Sexton find the FAU job to keep him from LSU.
